Hmmm .. birth cer for USC??

I was just wondering why the USC's birth certificare AND passport is needed for the AOS interview? Surley either one would be proof that they are indeed a USC? The problem is that when Jamal was born, the person who registered the birth, assumed that his mothes ex husband was his father and hyphonated his last name with her ex-husbands name. He has NEVER gone by the name on his birth certificate, and spent years trying to overcome this problem when getting a pasport. Finally, after a lot of trouble, he managed to get his passport just as his last name, with the hyphenated name dropped. Now, we're afraid that they will look at his birth certificate and passport and see that the names dont match. He has NOTHING in the name that his birth certificate shows, everything that has been documented is under the name in his passport. I dont understand why they need to see both??

Yes, both are required, the letter which informs you about the interview date says the following: Your petitioner's BC and your petitioner's evidence of USC or Lawful permanent resident status. They also need a BC of the non USC. Let me know if you need to know anything more.

But surley a passport is evidence of the USCs citizenship??
