My new Thai wife and I are in the midst of an AOS. Just finished biometrics, and, if the averages on this site are accurate, we're looking at 3 more months for a GC stamp.

Trouble is that next month I'm being relocated to Sing for one year's time.

What's our best course of action? I've been advised to leave my wife behind with relatives to wait out the interview, then, assuming the GC is granted, to make twice yearly visits back to the US to ensure that Immigration does not revoke the GC. I've also been advised that the Advanced Parole is not for cases such as this -- only emergencies.

Given the length of separation (and the hassling she's likely to get during infrequent visits back), I'd prefer to find some way to safely withdrawal, or preferably "pause", the the AOS until we can permanently reside in the US. I don't, however, want to take any course of action that would prejudice Immigration against a future permanent re-entry by my wife. I've heard that an abandoned AOS is frowned upon.

We won't be in Sing forever, so whatever we do, we don't want to get into a situation where my wife can't get back into the US.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can not pause the AOS.... it has to run its course... your options are your wife remains in the US until she has her Greencard and then goes to visit you in Sing or you abandon her AOS and then file for K3/CR1 when you are ready to return to the US.... she has to be resident in the US to maintain her greencard...

Make an InfoPass appointment at your local office. Tell them exactly what you've stated here to us. Let them advise you what to do.

I would recommend that your wife stay until she gets her GC, then apply for a Reentry Permit which will allow her to be out of the country for over a year but less than two.
