I'm about going mental right now..

On Saturday I got stung by a hornet a bunch of times on my foot.

I now have celulitis and am taking an antibiotic for it ( have seen a Dr.)..

BUT THE ITCHING.. My whole foot is on fire!!!

I'm almost going mental with it, and the only thing that seems to help is an ice bag on the foot ALL the time...

I've tried- Benadryl cream, After Bite, Hydrocortazone cream, and calamine lotion.. NONE of these touches the itch..

It's alright during the day, i just sit at my desk at my office with an ice bag underneath.. but when i'm sleeping.. sleeping with an icebag isn't fun, and I'm getting crappy sleep waking up itching.. GAH

Anyone got any more ideas??

Have you tried Benadyl pills? Will make you sleepy, but should work.

Yep tried that initially.. and no go.. :)

Witch Hazel works a treat. Soak a gauze pad and attach it with some surgical tape. It eliminates the itch on contact. You can get it anywhere they sell vitamins and supplements. Epsom salts are inexpensive and great for soaking in the tub or a footbath.

Excellent.. Will go to my "green" store (as hubby affectionately refers to it).. tonite! :) Ahhhhh I just want the itch to stop!!!

My hubby got eaten alive by mosquitos a few weeks ago. Only thing that worked for him was to rub some bar soap on the bites.

Just regular Ivory Soap?? mmmmm it's worth a shot!!

Have you talked to a doctor about the itching (not just the cellulitis)? All of the remedies I can think of are for dermatitis or hives. This sounds like something different.

I did ask her last night when I saw her again. She said the swelling was still worrisome and I did tell her about the itch solutions i had tried and she suggested the After Bite stuff.. but i bought that and calamine loation on my way home, but both were busts.. :(

Are you sure the stinger isn't still in your skin?

hubby looked at the time of hte bite.. and said that he couldn't see it.. it was so swollen the past few days that i honestly couldn't look inside at all..

I have wondered though.. it's not tender in the area though.. just itchy

That reminds me of the time I got poison ivy when I was younger. The doctor told me to purchase Sunlight bar soap, lather it on, then let it dry in. It worked great for helping to speed up the healing process. I should mention that he specified Sunlight because of the specific ingredients used. He said other soaps wouldn't work.

Interesting! May be worth a shot to try the Sunlight specifically.

Emancipation - I believe ours was Dial soap. But it was about the only thing that gave him relief. The OTC stuff didn't do squat.

And I would second the benadryl advice - although it does make some people sleepy, so you may not want to take it at work.

I did hop myself up on Benadryl for the first 2 days.. and really it didn't do very much of anything but make me sleepy.. i was sooo itchy then too..

My Dr. said to take Ibuprofen for the swelling and uncomfortableness (is that a word)? and perscribed an antibiotic for the cellulitis..

I know this silly thing that my hubby told me to do when I had chigger bites, but it's really stupid. It worked though, it stopped itching.
