Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich are the only decent choices in the whole bunch.

That's the funniest thing I've heard all week.

That's obviously her opinion, so I'm not quite sure why you find it so hilarious. Surely you do realize that some of these longshots do have support. I assume that is because people believe that they are decent choices.

You forgot my addendum to include Mike Gravel. :P

BTW, my comment referred to the people actually mentioned in the article. You of course are free and even encouraged to support the idiot of your choice.

I think that's what makes them so appealing to me. I have very little respect for the frontrunners who talk out of both sides of their mouths.

Maybe I've become a bit cynical or pragmatic, but it doesn't bother me as much as it used to. I been through too many Presidential Elections to hang on to hope that some long shot will ever win, but they have a purpose to be running - they can keep the front runners talking about issues that they prefer to avoid. The political process is about compromise, for better or worse.

How about Carter or Clinton, even? What do you think makes it different this time around?

I think the major difference this time around is that we are in a mess with Iraq. Although the Democratic Party is a huge tent, I think there is a consensus that if the Party is going win the White House, we need a candidate who'll garner enough swing voters.

I like Dennis Kucinich - he is an important voice of the Party but I just don't see him ever getting the Party's nomination.

I think instead of "The Long Shots Make It Interesting", this topic should be titled "The Long Shots Make It Entertaining".

Pat Buchanan and John McCain (in 2000) both made things very interesting for the Republican Presidential Primaries.
