wellllllllllllll ... to make a LONG story short, we just changed or phone number. when we moved to jersey years ago, my mom had set up our apartment so everything, save the lease, was put in her name. fast forward 3 years, we decided to FINALLY switch the name ... but explaining the situation to verizon was beyond their comprehension, so we just decided to terminate our line and get a whole new phone line!! when they asked for name and SS# ... i gave them only geoff's info. since he didn't have credit (duh) we had to put down a refundable (in 6 mo) $100 ... easy enough! all this happened last week.

today, he received his very first credit card offer!! it was from capital one, unsecured, no astronomical fees (yearly of $39) ... he applied online and was approved with a nice limit.

i was rather surprised because we never looked into establishing his credit and figured it would just happen. of course, i'm chalking this all up to the new phone line ... *hint hint* for those of you that want to quickly establish credit.

anyway ... peace out! :goofy: (LOST is on!!!!!)

Credit Card companies will offer you cards all the time for nothing, they actually like when you can´t pay so you build up on interest.

That's great Monique! Yay!

We went to the bank on Monday and added Stewart to my credit card. The lady was like, "Well let's just do a credit card app to see if he could get one or not...you never know"

we did and it turned out he could get a partially secured card. We put down 99 bucks (which we get back after 9 months of regular payment) and a $500 credit limit.

Not bad, eh? I was expecting it to be much harder. So I guess he has SOME sort of credit somewhere :)

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Hubster was offered an unsecured credit card from our bank, Chase, because of where he works and the three other accounts his name is on with them...thought that was cool. And that was only after 6 months.

Congrats to Geoff!

Well I still cant get a credit card in my name

I have been here since May/05

I have a cell phone in my name since June here to see if that might build my credit some. People have told me that it goes to the credit bureau.

I do have my name added to one of my husbands credit cards to see if that might help me.

I just want some credit in my own name.

I dunno how true this will be for my fiance, but back when I was 18 and trying to build up a credit history for myself someone just added me to their curent credit card account as an additional user, which automatically boosted me and gave me credit, and I think shortly after I was getting credit cards of my own, at first at the small local stores and then at bigger and better banks with no deposits needed ever. Just a suggestion ;) I'll be trying the same method for my fiance as well when comes to the states :D
