I miss Pimms.

Found this recipe online. It's not bad.

two parts 40% gin

two parts red vermouth

one part orange Curacao

This makes the "Cheat's Pimms"

Then of course add either fizzy lemonade or ginger ale (usually about one of Pimms to three of mixer)

suppose i better stick to the day job then! i thought that the online shops make you bulk buy, whereas I could just make up the packs that are specifically ordered, but you make a good point Lou Lou, I suppose most people would have relatives back here happy to send stuff.

Well a good will gesture, if anyone is stuck and in dire need of something british, PM me and I would be happy to send a parcel or 3, with just my costs covered. VJ is a great site, and the brit section is one of the most supportive I've noticed. I hope that I'll be using all the wealth of knowledge here very soon, but in the mean time...

Now I do love beans on toast. At least I know I can get proper Heinz beans at the local supermarket :thumbs:

 that's funny, I'm originally from Ireland, so I miss Batchelors beans. I'll eat Heinz, but it's just not the same. I'll have two countries to miss if/when I eventually go

actually, I kind of lie. I miss this place so much it hurts:

I actually drunkenly entertained with a friend the idea of opening up a british cheese shop here in LA. We would have done delivery on motor bikes and called it Cheesey Rider.

I have 3 local co-ops that stock cheese from Neals Yard so there should be one where you are. They also stock from other UK dairies. I used to work minutes away from that place, and I don't miss the smell in the summer. I can also get Pimms from the local offie, so you must be able to get it!

Met the ole man in January 1998

Jan. 2004: K1 visa issued ~ April 2004: Got on a plane ~ Nov. 2004: GC in my mucky hands ~ Dec. 2006: Received 10 YR GC

really? That is very exciting! We have a lot of great cheese shops around, but I haven't really found one that covers british cheese particularly well (french and italian are well represented). The best one is actually the local Ralphs that has more exotic types like a Windsor Red but only has one kind of cheddar and it's pretty mild.

I have yet to see Pimms and I'm sure it must be somewhere with the number of expats in westside LA, I probably need to look harder

My wife seems to like Beans on Toast just fine, although of course I'm talking about "proper" Baked Beans, not the 90% Brown Sugar and Bacon ones you get here.

BTW - I bought a bottle of Pimms at the liquor store the other day, so you can get it here. First time I'd ever seen it though I'll admit.

EDIT: because I said Cheese.

I always see at least 5 kinds in any US supermarket.

I specifically meant different kinds of "Large" potatoes. At my local store you can definitely get 5-6 kinds, but only 1 kind that would even be close to be useful for making chips, and I doesn't make very good chips. The rest are "baby potatoes" or purple ones. Not that useful.

I just want somewhere to sell Maris Pipers!
