Sorry guys, but I just have to rant, yet again over my husband not being eligible for a NJ drivers license. First, back in April of 2005, we showed up to DMV, he had enough "points" to obtain a license, however there was only a month left on his k-1 visa, no he did not qualify.(must be valid at least 90 days). They asked us why we waited.. hmm lets see it took almost 60 days to get the SS #, to then open a bank account to have the 6 points needed to qualify!! ok they sent us away stating, come back when you get your letter of confirmation that AOS is processing.

Ok, 2nd visit, showed up with the letter, sorry you need to have the APPROVAL letter.. bye bye.

Return 3rd visit,December of 2005, once we FINALLY received the EAD card. Opppss what do you know, USCIS $%^& up my husband date of birth, Feb. 17, 2005...... hmmmm yes my husband in 10 month old now... well, because of the typo.. bye, bye again. We were told come back with the AP approved.

Returned 4th visit in January with the AP document. Sorry, you must actually use the AP, please come back once you leave the country, and return with your valid I-94. Do you sense my anger yet??

Well, my husband took a quick trip to see his mom in February. and yesterday again went to attempt to get his license.. AP document stamped, I-94 arrival record valid for a year... we are ready right... ha,ha,ha

I guess I laugh not to cry.

WE ARE SORRY, WE NO LONGER ACCEPT THIS FORM OF PROOF OF RESIDENCY/LEGAL STATUS TO OBTAIN A NJ DRIVERS LICENSE.

Our interview is scheduled for four weeks from now, so I am not going to make myself sick over this, but jesus.... No branch of government works with the next, they can't get ANYTHING right when it comes to processing our applications, or to facilitate the basic necesities for those of us that have done things the right way, and now, the foolish politicians think USCIS can take on ANY additional burden. This is just plain wrong!! ok, I am done ranting, thank you all for listening. :crying:

Go ahead and rant away!!! I totally understand your frustrations. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing with any of these government agencies, least of all USCIS.

I presume if they don't give your husband his licence on the next visit, we may be hearing about this on the news!!!!!

This may be an obvious question, but have you tried going to a different DMV office? Maybe that one is where they employ all the morons.

Personally I would bring all those documents to another DMV office and not leave there until they gave him a license. Demand to speak to a supervisor or something. There is no excuse for any of that.

OMG I would have exploded with anger by now if I were you.

I agree, if you have the time, try another DMV office, they might not have received the "memo" saying they no longer accept AP as proof....

Does he have a driver's license from his home country? My husband does and since the DMV said he wasn't a resident (cause, like your husband, he cant prove to their standards that he trully lives here), he is a visitor. Well, visitors with foreign licenses can drive in the United States for up to one year...so, our conclusion: they consider him a visitor, he can drive. Anyway, that has been our solution cause the two different DMVs that we have gone to are quite unflexible and won't listen.

That is exactly what DMV told us to do....HOWEVER... (oh the irony, really) He was stopped for a routine check, and was given a ticket for being an unlicensed driver, even after showing the police officer a international drivers license, and a license from Costa Rica. The prosecutor actually dropped the charges, but it was pure aggravation!

I was doing some research on this one at my local dmv. They require that he drives with a learners permit for 90 days (i think) prior to recieving his license. They also said that if he had an international drivers license he would drive at the same time he was holding the learners permit. LOL This sounds so very ignorant. Now the trick is finding some reasonable insurance. That should be a real treat too.

Good luck,

Sorry to hear about all this...

I also tried to get a NJ id and they refused it because I didn't have the SS under my married name, I did have the SS under my maiden name... I did have the letter though that they're about to issue the new card.

Not enough!!!

And of course I need an id to show that we have the same address at the interview.

Our interview is May 31st , hopefully the new card will come...

All the best,

Anna
