I have searched the forums for an answer to this but unsuccessfully.

What do I need to do to get a new SS card without the "DHS Authorization" on it?

Not really a new thing though...

Go into the SSA office with your I-551 stamp (after allowing a few days for the status to appear in SAVE so it will verify), and they will send you a new card without the message.

Also worth noting that after naturalization, you also should go in with the naturalization certificate and do the same thing, except you can write "NO CARD" for your address so that SSA's NUMIDENT records is updated only and you are not charged one of your limited 10 lifetime card replacements.

Not really a new thing though...

Apply for a replacement card a few weeks after getting the green-card.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Hell, I forgot totally I was supposed to do this.

Without doing it, your new status won't verify through your social security number, the most common way citizenship and immigration status is initially verified by government agencies, credit bureaus, and some employers.

When you do go the SSA, I would also suggest that you not just sign the printout as quickly as they'd like you too; when we did this change, the agent changed the day in the date of birth, and the SSN didn't verify for a date of birth mismatch! Needless to say, when we went back in the next year after the IRS e-file kept rejecting 1040 for D.O.B. mismatch, and the annual Social Security statement showed the wrong D.O.B. (which had been correct in previous years), the SSA agent was pretty dumbfounded about how it might have happened, although she acknowledged that the system showed that it was correct previously, but she asked why we hadn't checked it before signing the printout.

The moral, double-check all the information before you sign the computer printout whenever you visit SSA. For that matter, insist they make a special printout to show you that the PRA block was turned on so that you won't get the message you want to remove on your new card anyway.

As soon as we got our GCs, we went to the SSA to get my (then 14y.o.) son his SSN. So I decided to have my notation removed since I was already there too.

08/17/08: Mailed N400 to TSC

08/19/08: USPS attempted delivery

08/20/08: TSC received N400

08/21/08: TSC cashed check

09/02/08: Received NOA...........Priority date: 08/20/08

..............................................Notice date : 08/22/08

09/02/08: Received Biometrics Notification

09/18/08: Biometrics completed - Charlotte DO

10/24/08: Received Interview Letter

12/08/08: Interview @ 1:00pm. APPROVED!

01/05/09: Oath Ceremony 10:00AM. Now officially a USC!!!
