I am feeling really really stupid right now - am filling AOS paperwork - and due to my habit of being a tad anally retentive have been struggling with # alien registration number" - my instinct is that it isd the RED set of numbers on the k1 visa but i am being distracted by the A number on the left hand side ....can anyone please please clear my head on this - there seems to be a place on the forms for the a number usually on the forms at the very top and right hand side ....are these two things entirely different ?

All help received with gratitude and apologies becuase i am sure this must be my problems in some way -

The number on your i-94 is a random number. It is a number unique to your i-94 and is just there so they can compare the part they tear off and keep with the part they staple in your passport.

The BIG RED NUMBER on your K-1 Visa is.... the "visa number". :)

Don't worry about asking silly questions, we've all been there, I know ALL about checking and rechecking a thousands times then worrying.... :)

ok. i have just checked my visa and i-94 - the A number on the visa is only 8 digits after the A ( sorry - here goes the rententive stuff!) so presumably when you say 9 you mean inluding the A? and bizarely the POE officer used that same sequence ( including the A) on the i-94 so both the i-94 and the visa ( bottom left hand under petition approved wording) seem to have same number....brb am now searching for headache remedy! ( lol )

Just to reiterate in case I wasn't 100% clear... your alien number is directly underneath where it says "Annotation". :)

Hi jezz85,

What happens if the alien number on the visa is different than the one on the NOA's? I just noticed that on my wife's visa the second and third numbers are different from the NOA's. It looks like they typed 99 on her visa instead of 88. I'm assuming the alien number from the NOA wouldn't change when the visa was issued.:wacko:

Thanks,

Charlie

Wow, a post addressed to me!

Hi Charlie,

I'm sorry but I agree with you, the Alien Number doesn't change, it shouldn't be different. Sounds like someone has put a typo on your visa :( That really sucks. I suggest you look elsewhere on this site to see what others have done with a visa with a typo, I know I have read posts about similar situations with typos on the names and things like that. Also, go ahead and make a new thread about this issue, hopefully others who have had the same thing happen to them can tell you what you should do.

In the mean time, try calling the consulate where the visa was issued to ask them for advice. I'm sorry, this is just my unknowledgable suggestion, I'm sure others who have had this problem will have much better advice.

Don't stress too much, it'll be fine (just a pain in the ***)
