Hello everyone,

i'm so glad that there is a webpage like this, that answers all the questions that confuse people.

My question:

I have a 2 year GC right now, and I'm getting ready to apply for a 10 year GC. I have to send out my paperwork to the immigration service center in November 2007. I already called the banks and asked if they could mail us statements that my husband and I have checkings and savings both together.

If those statements are dated with August 2007 are they too old for November 2007?? Someone told me that the immigration office does not accept any bank statement that was issued two months before the filing date. Is that correct? I thought I have time right now before my college starts again and that's why I thought it's better to have all the statements together and when it's time to file I just put them in the envelope with other papers and forms together and mail it.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks a lot,

Lika

It says right on the I-751 that they want to see evidence covering the time period between the date you were married to the date you file for removal of conditions. Most people concentrate their evidence on the time period after they got the conditional green card, though.

They'll accept evidence from any time since you got married. They prefer to see a variety of evidence with different dates, so that the span of evidence covers most of the time since you got the green card. You don't have to be to ####### about this; you most definitely DON'T need to include something from each month. But if all the evidence is old, it looks like you married for papers, stayed together a very short time, and then stopped living together. If all the evidence is very new, it looks like you married for papers, lived apart, and then suddently realized that you needed to hastily manufacture some evidence just before filing for removal of conditions.

For an affidavit of support, they may only want to see recent bank statements (not sure of exact guidelines anymore), but for the I-751, older joint bank statements are fine, and it's good to include a smattering of evidence from various time periods throughout the past two years.
