Hello Everyone,

I am quite confuse regarding this matter..My fiance filed the petition(K1 application) last June of 2007. I am confuse if I will continue teaching next semester (October 2007-March 2008). My schedules and responsibilities might destruct me later on especially if We will start hearing from the USCIS. My friend who filed same thing adviced me not to resign because normally approval of k1 visa will take up to 10 months( base on her personal experience) But, as I go over here, Its less than 10 months for most couple to get their visa approve! pls help! Thank you so much and more power!

Ive involved my employer into my plans from day one.

First for understanding when it comes to extra days off in a year so I can visit her.

And now with the visa story.

I keep them up to speed every step of the way, and most employers will appreciate your honesty and be willing to keep in mind that you might leave at some point.

When it comes to the K1 visa, it does generally take the average time this website states.

After that you have half a year to travel to the states.

All together it sounds like you would have plenty of time to keep your job and save some extra money.

It could be 6 month and it could be 10 months... remember that you have 6 months after the visa is issued to enter the USA so you should be able to finish teaching the school year if you so desired without much problem.

YMMV

You have up to six months to execute the visa. If you can present a situation where you need more time, like a contractual commitment with employment, Manila will certainly consider issuing a new visa. Good luck

I told my fiancee that it could take 6-10+ months and she should keep working to learn new things, add the experience to her life, and stay busy. She informed her boss and business that she was in the process of a K1 and would be leaving after it was approved and she got her visa, but she wanted to work until everything was set and it was several months away. It was important to keep the boss and business folks happy for multiple reasons and so far they have been very supportive and understanding with her.

The fact that her apartment is provided by work and her work address are the main contact points as well as her being in that city for the past 7 years for college and work was a big factor. It made no sense for her to quit, go back to her home city, then apply for the K1 there, since her current location, police report thing, and distance from the consulates are all more convenient where she is now.

There is always that off chance the visa is delayed/denied or some other major life events happen, so I wanted her to keep her life there intact, until we are sure she is able to come over here.

With the visa in hand our plan is for her to return back to her home city and spend a month or two with her family and friends. Her mom wants to show her some family recipes and give her some advice before sending her over for marriage. I've already told her I am brushing up on my cooking and picking up new tricks, so we can cook together, but she has to have enough skill to hold up her end of the bargain. :)

I wouldn't worry because March is less than 7 month from now which is about how long it will take. Even if you have your Embassy interview and are approved around that time, your Visa will be valid for up to 6 months from the time of issuance.

Great question! I got a lot out of this information myself and I'm sure others have that same feeling of limbo.

i agree i think you should keep the job and even finish out the year in march. there's no reason why you cant and it will keep you busy and productive during the process. on the off chance you don't get approved then you will still have that work and money to show for all the time you've waited.
