Hi My fiancée and her son just got the k-1 visa approved and have visa in hand. I am in the process of looking for a flight to jfk as they are the only airport I know whom will stamp for temporary work permit. My question is would it be a mistake to get a cheap round way ticket and just not fly back? One way tickets are so expensive on short notice. Could this have a consequence on their visa stamp? Of course I don’t want to make any mistake so I would need to know someone that has done that at the jfk airport. Thanks so much.

With limited background provided, round trip or one-way tickets, make zero difference on Fiancé based visa's.

In terms of the JFK, K-1 work visa approved stamps, this will work, generally. No guarantees on that.

Either way, the K-1 work stamp is only good for 90 days.

RT tickets are fine, just make sure you have it set up to use the outgoing leg and not the other way around. Airlines cancel the return if the outgoing leg is not used.

RT tickets are actually more than OW tickets if the fare class matches, but usually RT tickets are discounted into a lower fare class more often then one way tickets. Fare class determines how many miles you get, or how much it will cost you to get a refund or change dates.

Hi HotOlive - I did exactly that in June..... used the outbound leg of a round-trip ticket to fly to the US on a K-1 visa. They did not question it at all....

I didn't fly to JFK so can't say how likely it is that you will receive temporary EAD stamp.

Congratulations on the approval, and good luck to you both.

I got a roundway ticket because it was cheaper. I don't think it makes a difference. If you're looking for a cheap flight, go to http://www.flyusave.com

They have an 800 number and are the cheapest I have ever came across. My husband paid $800 for me and my daughter and that was $400 a piece. My brother used to use them when he flew to see us over Christmas while stationed at New jersey. His tickets were always about $400 as well.

round trip tickets are almost aleays cheaper than one way, use or don't use the round trip, it doesn't make much difference.
