I can't remember where I sent mine to but I just checked the DOS web site and it says to send it to Portsmouth, NH 03801-2909

I'm sure it'll get there either way.

Everything says use 03801-2909 for 32 Rochester Ave., including USPS ZIP+4 code lookup. Furthermore, the National Passport Center at 31 Rochester Ave. (which happens to be across the street) is 03801-2900. Probably 03801-2901 is a mistake and an invalid location, and USPS equipment probably drops the -2901 when it reads it and does its own lookup for printing the codestrips.

BTW - Aerial view of this places shows that is a warehouse-like facility in a former Air Force base now under the ownership of the Pease International Development Authority and run as a Business Park Tradeport.

You know what, I withdraw the conclusion in my last message above, I think -2901 on NVC's envelope is actually correct, and I introduce the following rather interesting ZIP+4 data to support this conclusion:

NATIONAL VISA CENTER

32 ROCHESTER AVE

PORTSMOUTH NH 03801-2901

(EVEN Range 2 - 38) ROCHESTER AVE

PORTSMOUTH NH 03801-2909

So, I would say NVC has a special ZIP+4 code for more efficient delivery, but they don't publicize it well enough.

Similarly, NPC across the street has a special -2908 instead of the usual -2900 for odd-numbered delivery on the street.

Good find, thank you very much!

Thank you guys and Mr Parker: that really interesting to see what is behind a simple number....hubby told me i should send it on what's on the enveloppe...and explained to me that the 1st 5 numbers represent the town, the other 4 the exact location in the town...Now, i say to myself, if i send it in the enveloppe...at no that finishes with 1, they'll sent at the office no that finished with 9....sort of intern rule...who knows!...i fell like in the movies...secret agent 009...

Every digit in the ZIP code has a meaning, with the 1st digits representing one of 10 national regions. The +4 digits are optional but helpful.

-2901 and -2909 will both work since NVC's address is covered by both codes.

BTW - I actually had to send something to NVC last night, as you can see below, but I could not get USPS Click-N-Ship to use -2901 on the shipping label no matter how much I tried, because it keeps "standardizing" the address and insists on using -2909.

Then, it occurred to me, I probably don't want my package auto-sorted and buried with everyone else's anyway, which is what will happen if -2901 is used. By using -2909, it might come in a separate, smaller bin with the general correspondence rather than in the -2901 bin which has been presorted with all the mass mailings. So, if that's true, I think using -2909 like we've been doing actually might be a time-saver.

I sent finally the ds-230, just coming from mailing it and put on their white enveloppe 9 instead of 1 as it was, which enveloppe was put in another one, the Purolator one...with the 9 lol...I folowed yours and Mononke's advice...for the 9...When inscribing all the info for shipping by internet to be printed, the seller had difficulty with the zip code..I asked her to delet the - between the 2 sets of numbers and the computer accepted it the zip code.

It was very interesting again to share about the secret of these 2 numbers...and thank you all again with your help... :D

And see you in the next chapters of the process!
