yeah, Oklahoma got the remnants of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Erin as it tracked inland. The winds weren't hurricane or tropical storm strength anymore but the gusts were still very strong and damaging. The rain was similar to what does come down in a hurricane or tropical storm and what we get (and are missing right now and causing our major drought!) here in Georgia after hurricanes strike the East Coast or Florida/Gulf area. It is a sure sign when you see those bands of clouds passing overhead - and then when you end up on the other side after what was once the eye passes and you get the winds from the opposite direction. It is a real storm and there has been loss of life due to the flooding.

You are incorrect. The storm reintensified as it crossed from Texas to Oklahoma. The winds were above tropical storm strength. In fact, there was a well defined eye with rain bands extending across the entire state.

If sustained winds were over 73 mph then it was a hurricane. If over 38 mph then it's a tropical storm.

That was surely an oversimplification -- 3 elements are required for definition as a tropical storm:

1. Must originate over tropical waters

2. Must have distinct rotary circulation

3. Must have constant wind speed ranges 39-73 miles per hour
