Cost is a prime consideration - especially if you're talking about rolling this out to include tourists on 2-week holidays.

Big deal, let them complain or stay home.

That attitude might loose the US a lot of revenue from tourists and business travellers, that would rather do business elsewhere than to abide to the US bullshit imposed on the "evil" foreigners.

If you want to turn the US into a "greater North-Korea", closed of and suspicious of all foreigners, then that is an interesting vision but hardly appealing to thinking people who love liberty.

What happened to land of the free, home of the brave?

That already happened - when they set a deadline for all VWP countries to bring in biometric passport standards. Ended up changing the deadline - because the loss of all those tourism $$$ would have had an adverse effect on the economy.

What happened to land of the free, home of the brave?

The land of the free and home of the brave will be making a comeback next January on the day President Obama is sworn into office.

This kind of reminds me of the Onion headline after the 1994 elections (the Republican Revolution) -"It's All Different Now" with a picture of Newt Gingrich

I'm not going to go through all of this post again, but didn't we already determine that a passport is a pretty damn good piece of identity? *shrug*

a universal identification for foreign visitors? Um don't we have one already its called a passport.

I was thinking exactly the same thing!

I think they already know we have something called a passport. However, passports are a lot easier to falsify in other countries than here in the US. Hence the need or perceived need for a Universal ID card.

In England and US? Yes. Maybe the passport is pretty damn good piece of identity already. But you cant say the same thing for a lot of other countries.

This is not a really a thread on how to get real passports with fake names but yes, its a lot easier to do in other countries, like say... Philippines.
