My wife had her Biometrics appointment a couple days ago. The Biometrics was for her AOS & the EAD. They didn't let me go in the back with her so I am not sure what to expect next. Does something get mailed to her saying she has authorization to work? (They did give us a stamped receipt)

On a side note. She also has a SSN with the funny little statement on it saying something about having permission to work with Homeland Security's approval.

she still has to wait for her I-765 to be approved. It was a little over a month from biometrics appointment when my wife's EAD was approved.

Here is information on the different types of SS cards.

http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10002.pdf

Are there different types of cards?

We issue three types of Social Security cards. All cards show your name and Social Security number.

1. The first type of card shows your name and Social Security number and lets you work without restriction.

We issue it to:

— U.S. citizens; and

— People lawfully admitted to the United States on a permanent basis.

2. The second type of card shows your name and number and notes, “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.”

We issue this type of card to people lawfully admitted to the United States on a temporary basis who have DHS authorization to work.

3. The third type of card shows your name and number and notes, “NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT.”

We issue it to people from other countries:

— Who are lawfully admitted to the United States without work authorization from DHS, but with a valid nonwork reason for needing a Social Security number; or

— Who need a number because of a federal law requiring a Social Security number to get a benefit or service.
