OK, here's for a paranoid question:

We had our medical in Denmark today. Everything was going smoothly...the doctor asked the questionaire question "Do you use drugs?" and we of course said no. Then my husband made a joke that the pinprick on his arm (from a blood test a few days earlier) was from heroine (of course it isn't) I was shocked he said that but the doctor sort of laughed. Later they took blood for HIV/syph. tests and I was wondering if they would use some of the sample for a drug test???

Or do they tell you that first? When I called and asked about the tests there was no mention they test drugs...I specifically asked and they said they don't, they just ask. The doctor checked "no" for drugs on the form but I still have the feeling....

I'm sure you're fine.

Why would your husand say something like that? Nervous small talker, huh?

You have to be careful of what you say these days. Make sure he doesn't make any bomb jokes in the airport!

NO kidding!!! I would KILL him if he made a bomb joke at the airport. He also made a joke when they asked about leprosy...something about his finger falling off...yes, he is a very nervous small talker.

I'm not worried about passing a drug test even if one was administered but it is the fact they would do it without our knowing that bothers me. My mother (who is a PURITAN) once tested positive for drugs after eating something (I think it was poppy seeds). We live in Germany where EVERYTHING has poppy seeds...you see where I'm going???

Thanks for your replies

Don't worry, they can't test for something without his consent.

I would lecture your hubby about inappropriate jokes at the wrong time. Let's hope he never jokes about hijacking at an airport security checkpoint lest he be hauled away in handcuffs......

Some things you just don't joke about!

Don't worry, they can't test for something without his consent.

Actually, they do not need your consent for an immigration medical.. they can use your blood to test for whatever they want... you are doing the medical to be able to apply for an immigration benefit, there is no doctor/client provilege and the doctors runs tests that are directed by the US Government.

And there have been people who have had their visas rejected because a drug test had been performed on their blood and it came out positive..

Because of your fiancee's response, don't be surprised if they in fact do perfrom a drug test on the blood...

OK, now I feel paranoid again...the thing is I would think they would tell us. I asked about what would happen if the AIDS/Syph. tests were positive and the doctor said he would call us to tell us BEFORE we went to the embassy...it only seems fair to inform someone of what is being done and what the results are before a third party finds out.

Hopefully they check for drugs.....why are you concerned??...problem?

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Debbie and Abdol,

You shouldn't have anything to worry about if your husband gets drug tested, since he doesn't do drugs at all, according to your post quoted above.
