Going to have a cruise

My soon-to-be-in-laws booked us a cruise out of excitement (without our knowledge that they already paid it) to Mexico for our honeymoon as their gift. As what I know, K-1 visa is just a single entry and this is the confusion we, my Tony and I are going through now. The cruise will depart from Florida (where we will get married too) going to Mexico which is not a US teritory. I talked to him about the problems might arise if we will take the risk of taking the cruise.

My fiance grew up and spent half of his life in Florida that is why he doesn't like the idea of staying too long in the said state. Hawaii and Puerto Rico are good alternative choices but if we will take this option (HI or PR), will I be fine travelling holding only my passport with K-1 visa (2 days after our wedding)? I do not want to take any chances.

Replies, comments, suggestions and help will be highly appreciated. :)

You cannot travel outside the USA with your passport with K-1 Visa. Your soon to be in-laws can cancel the booking anytime. I would rather suggest Hawaii dont take chances or else you will be deported. You can file for Advance Parole after you get married but it will take time, if its okay for you to have your honeymoon few months after your wedding.

Good luck!

If it was me, I would tell my inlaws to either

(a) go on the cruise instead

or

(b) postpone the cruise

or

© refund the cruise

because until my fiancee gets an approved Advanced Parole document in her hand, I won't let her near any border.

I agree. You might or will be denied re-entry if you leave outside the USA on a K1 visa regardless of the marriage. My siblings also thought about it as a gift to us after the wedding and I told my fiancee about it but being a good researcher that she is she said DONT. Instead , my siblings booked us a houseboat for a cruise at St. John's River in FLorida for a week, knowing I love boats. I think its very unique for a honeymoon and my fiancee I THINK more excited with the honeymoon than the wedding, hahaha. Better tell the in-laws to cancel the cruise. Goodluck!!!

i agree with bszoom42. k1 visa is a one time entry to the US. better to cancel or postpone the cruise until you have your AP. though you can travel within the us territory. good luck

I tried searching online about the houseboat, didnt find one though. Any helpful site would help us get ideas about this cruise in a houseboat? My fiance's parents know that us (Tony and I), are both inlove with body of waters. :D They would definitely get upset today once my fiance tells them the 'bad' news about the cruise. Giving them alternative suggestion will (I hope) somehow lessen the letdown.

Thanks everyone!

I also think there are cruised up and down the Mississippi as well. In my opinion any of those options would be far better for people who are in love with the water, nature, and the idea of just floating on the water. My feeling towards the big cruiseships is that they are small cities and most people are just locked inside eating away and watching free shows. If I wanted that I would just take a night out on the town here somewhere. Your honeymoon should be much more then that. It should be fun, romantic, with a sense of adventure.

We were lucky enough to go to Boracay for our honeymoon. I know a lot of couples do this in the Philippines, but I still feel that our's was exclusive and a real sense of adventure. We stayed at the Panoly which is one of the highest rated resorts on the island, yet we still had to hike up and down the mountain and down a dark road at night to get to the resort. There was no paved road leading to the resort. I think only a few people were booked in the hotel at the time, so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. We also hired a guide to take us on their boat for a day of snorkeling and visiting caves. What ever you do just have fun and relax.

Hawaii would be a good place to visit. It seems alot of people forget that Hawaii is a state in the US, which is why plenty of filipinos are here and are US citizens. In fact we just celebrated our admission day, which is a holiday this past Friday. Also the cruise here allows ample time to see all the main Islands in Hawaii.
