I grew up with my brother (ten years older than me) being my best friend and passing on all his interests and even taking me along everywhere with him. Because of that- I grew up with things from a totally different generation. It's really funny- but unfortunately nobody my age gets my jokes.

On another random note. Whenever Stargate SG1 first premiered- I jumped up and yelled, "IT'S MACGYVER!!!" and only one person my age knew who I was talking about. It's a sad sad day when MacGyver's great name dies. :(

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1989.

..

The CD was introduced two years before they were born.

CDs were introduced in 1982, I know because we just had the 25th Anniversary of the Compact Disc a few days ago, so this is #######.

McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.

They do in the UK still (or at least the last time I went to the UK they did).

my addition... They have no idea who the Garbage Pail Kids are {I loved them}

I should add that you still get Garbage Pail kids. I saw the stickers at a convience store recently. They even have a website:

CDs came out in 1982 but I don't remember them going mass market until about 1987

Regardless, the statement in the OP's post was wrong.

I bought vinyl records until the industry forced me to do otherwise some time in the mid-90s. I still prefer them.

Agreed, I didn't start being CDs until I moved to the USA.

How about more like the following:

TV stations used to only be on for limited times every day. In the US, they would sign off with "The star spangled banner"

Do you remember what a TV "Test Pattern" is?

TVs were only black & white (and I'm not talking about the outside of the box)

You could only get 2-3 stations, depending on the direction of the "rabbit ears"

You could f***k with the picture, if someone walked by the TV

The value of money:

You could buy 3 McDonald burgers & regular soda for $1, and get change

Parents would give me $5.00 and tell me to "Go fill the car with gas"

$0.10 for the price of a comic book, daily newspaper, and telephone call (at a pay phone)

$0.25 for the price of a sunday newspaper

"Kennedy" was a family name, not a first name

And when the rabbit ears didn't work properly or broke, you could rig an opened up coat hangar as a make-shift antenna:-)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

with tin foil.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

It is indeed :( So, they wouldn't understand the use of "MacGyver" as a verb. That actually happed on SG-1, when they needed to "MacGyver" a replacement for a DHD
