LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Steven Seagal, whose action movies once were major box-office attractions, believes false allegations by FBI agents ruined his career, the Los Angeles Times reported on Friday.

The comments in the Times are the first Seagal has made publicly about an investigation begun some five years ago by the FBI into accusations he intimidated a reporter and had ties to organized crime.

The Times said Seagal is demanding an apology from the FBI. A spokesman for the actor was not immediately available on Friday.

"False FBI accusations fueled thousands of articles saying that I terrorize journalists and associate with the Mafia," Seagal told the newspaper. "These kinds of inflammatory allegations scare studio heads and independent producers -- and kill careers."

Seagal, 56, was once a major star of action movies such as 1992's "Under Siege," which earned $156 million at worldwide box offices, but now he makes straight-to-DVD releases such as "Flight of Fury and "Attack Force."

Don't laugh too hard - he makes a stack doing those Direct-To-Video movies. They are HUGE.

i read somewhere that this straight to dvd will grow quiet a bit. due to fac that it cost so much to market and show at cinemas; coupled with decline of movie theather going public; coupled with fact of lighting quick pirating.

in any case, not sure he will be succesful in getting anything out of the feds.

Surely Seagal has realised that the reason his career stinks these days is because he's fat and $hit.

They have to film him in close up these days because he's not very supple. Or fast.

Clint Eastwood was able to continue being tough well after 56. Seagal just hasn't been successful at reinventing himself. Does he still sport a ponytail?

I know he's had a go at a country and western career. With sub-Shatner results.

Even without the ponytail his characters have the worst dress sense - he was wearing a stars and stripes leather jacket with tassells on the sleeves in one movie that I saw. Plus he was in that one with Michael Caine with the unintentionally hilarious title of "Fire Down Below". That's the one where Seagal goes after the man who gave him gonnorrhea.

Oh yeah - the guy who can beat up 6 men with his leg in a bear trap; and then still have time to sell exercise equipment in the commercial break ;)

Walker Texas Tosspiece.

Then of course there's:

Dolph Lundgren

and

Jean Claude Van Damme

Just what I was thinking!

Isn't Steven Seagal a "big" name in Buddhism? I think he has been recognised as some reincarnated person, or something.

I'll admit, I quite liked that one on a boat, can't remember the name of it. "I'm just a cook!". All the rest sucked big time though!
