I just called the Dr approved for the medical here in Sask. to see how long the waiting time is and the receptionist said that he no longer does this. The closest is Winnipeg or Edmonton! What?! We are in Swift Current, SK. What I am wondering is if it is possible to get the medical done the same time as the interview? How would this work for us?

Thanks for any advice

Thanks. I just called the Vancouver Dr and it is same day service. The automated message said to "please confirm immunization requirements and I will get back to you." Do you know what this means? I called the Health service and requested a copy of my husband immunization record. Are thre certain immunizations required to enter the US? Thanks.

Not required to enter on a K visa BUT they will need to be totally up-to-date for AOS so best take care of it now and take advantage of Canada's healthcare system while you can. :)

For my K3 I had proof of MMR-( measles, mumps, rubella)and Tetanus. The Doctor will accept oral testimony that you have had Chicken Pox.

If they no longer have record of the immunizations you can go get a Titres test done to check what you have immunity to. That was easy to do in advance- I just went to the Medicentre and told them to send me to the Lab. It was covered by Alberta Heath Care and it didn't cost me anything. I ended up coming up low immunity on a few things and had all my shots redone at my Local Heath Unit- that didn't cost me anything either.

Not for "K" visas

"Technically" immunizations are not required for K-1 non-immigrant visas. At certain panel physicians in Canada they are a requirement.

Dearheart.... check here for immunization requirements and take that to your GP. He/she will be able to take it from there and provide you with what you need.

if ur going to do the medical the same day as the interview, get there damn early!! There is a post on here, where some one did it the same day!! I belive its on a first come first serve basis (medical) I think that poster was there around 6 am?????

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Personally if it were me all over again....I would check into a physician in Calgary. I don't know if I would rely on the one in Vancouver for the same day thing....too risky for me. You are only 5 hrs away from Calgary anyways.

Good luck!!!

Thanks guys. Calgary is definitely an option. We have family there also so that helps. My husband and I definitely like the idea of having it done and taken care of before the trip to Vancouver. Thanks again!

It sounds like you've already decided. But to add more information, when I had my medical in Vancouver, a K-1 woman was there who'd had her interview the day before. Her K-1 was approved pending the medical results, which she brought to the consulate the day after the interview.

Even if you have both on the same day, the K-1 couldn't be approved on the spot because of the timing (using the current Vancouver consulate appointment time):

  • Medical: from about 6:30 to 10:30 AM
  • Interview: starting at 1 PM
  • Medical results: pick up at 2 PM or later
But you could take the medical results to the consulate on the same day, after the interview.

2016-12-16 - Oath ceremony
