And I think the steaks are better down there too. Hmm maybe it's the cook :innocent:

I'm addicted to Crystal Light raspberry lemonade. I am also partial to large white rolls from Safeway (just on their own though with no filling).

Buffalo Wild Wings -honey barbeque .... I love it!

I love Buffalo Wild Wings. My work has a company lunch once a month where they order food in. one month they got loads of Buffalo Wild Wings in, there were so many that I had to take loads home with me. Where I stay there a few around the city, but they are all in the suburbs and I live downtown, so I dont get a chance to go really.

It's so sad that 'favorite American food' is interpreted as 'your favorite fast food or near-fast-food chain'! We do more than McDonald's!

What about homemade hamburgers? Steak & corn on the cob on the grill! Biscuits & gravy! Barbecue (of all varieties!) Gulf Shrimp! Clams & lobster fresh from the Sound! All of New Mexican cuisine with green chiles for all. Guacamole! Burritos! Creole!

[/rant]

You know, that was exactly what I was thinking too when I read this. Then I started to think about what does represent US "American," food?

1) Real BBQ - slow cooked ribs, pork roasts, beef brisket, etc.

2) Backyard grilling - hamburgers, steaks, hot dogs, sausages - ball park food

3) Beach side clam/lobster/sea food fests

4) meatloaf?

5) American Fusion

I think American cuisine can be world cuisine because I can find decent examples of just about every world cuisine where I live. You just need to know someone with the recipes and have access to the ingredients, which usually isn't a problem.

I do think it is sad that chain restaurants, fast food, and junk food are what is thought of all the time, but that is expected. The fat, sugar, salt, and oil are flavorful and do taste good, but I'd never consider any of that American cuisine.

The U.S. is a little weird in one respect compared to other countries. It's easy to say what makes up French cuisine: you look at the ingredients local to regions of France, you look at the history... but with the U.S., the terrain and the native foods are just so different, plus everyone is from somewhere else originally, so it's not like there's just one American taste or sensibility.

Have you ever heard of Pei Wei? It's owned by PF Changs and serves the same food only cheaper. It doesn't offer the complete PF Chang menu but most of the favorites are there.
