I took a few years of Spanish. I am much better at reading and writing it than actually speaking it. I want to get back into some classes as I think Spanish is going to be a great advantage in the job world (if it isn't already).

I grew up speaking some Dutch as my grandparents were from Holland. Just know some phrases and key words.

Hubby and I also both speak Patois which is a dialect of Jamaica. This is usually what we speak when we are together.

Hubby and I speak Spanish together.

He also speaks Yucatec Maya and I can speak enough to sound like a 2 year old. This made living with his neighbor extremely difficult, as she spoke only a few words of Spanish. She'd talk away and I'd smile and nod, and then in response do something like point to the cat and say "cat" in Maya.

I am not fluent in any language other than English. Took Spanish classes in HS and College, but only the required amount.

I can say some phrases and key words in Spanish. Enough to have small conversations in Spanish. I know a few words in Hindi too.

Sujeet fluently speaks:

Hindi-Nat'l language of India

Bhojpuri- spoken in parts of north-central and eastern India

Marathi-regional Indian language mostly in Western India, think Mumbai

and he knows some words/phrases from another regional language or two in India. They have lots of languages there!

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Besides my native language, I can speak few Spanish words since we have this in HS and College. And also some of our native language have Spanish words in it. Husband is half German and he stayed in Turkey for 3 years or so, and he can speak their languages as well, he can also speak few Spanish words.

I studied French for 5 years (all of high school and one year in college). I can't speak French to save my life now. I know a little Arabic (both Yemeni and Egyptian dialects) but I'm far from fluent. My husband studied English in high school and college. I would say he's fluent with a very heavy accent.

I can speak a little bit of spanish. I took 2 years of it in high school, which at that time a foreign language class was not required curriculum. My husband can speak english, french, german and spanish. He's from Romania so he can speak romanian as well.

We've both started learning Vietnamese (which is HARD!) in preparation for adopting a baby from Vietnam. This will happen in 18 to 24 months so we have plenty of time to learn the basics. The idea is to be able to communicate with her right from the start so that the adjustment will be less scary for her. We are also making a commitment to keep a connection with her culture so we intend to travel with her back to Vietnam throughout her childhood and it would be very helpful to speak at least a little of the language.

Of course we couldn't possibly expect to speak Vietnamese well enough to teach it to her ourselves, although we will have some songs and maybe stories on CD for her to listen to so she remains familiar with the sounds if not the meanings of words.

Actually planning on bringing her up bilingual English/Italian.

That's awesome! I'm sure you'll make great parents! :thumbs::yes:
