To all Peruvian / American couples...... Hope that your families in Lima and other parts of Peru are ok after the earthquake that hit a couple of hours ago.

We're just waiting for CNN to bring us up todate on whats going on there. Internet connections are down so unable to get news that way.

My wife was able to get hold of her Mom, who is shaken up, but she is unable to contact other family members and is worried.

Pray that all is ok

I hope everyone in Peru is OK. I am talking on the internet with my Fiancee who lives about 1 1/2 hours north of Lima by plane in Piura and she said that she did not feel anything. She is more worried about the tsunami warnings. She does have family in Lima she is still trying to contact. My prayers are with everyone affected by this.

My prayers are with you all. I'm also trying to see if the Red Cross has set anything up for donations since so many people lost their homes. If anyone knows of a reputable foundation who is working on this, please let me know.

Our best wishes and prayers with the rest of the peruvian families as well.

We have been able to reach almost everyone so far. The majority of Kathe's family is in the Callao and La Punta evacuation areas (from the tsunami fear). There is one great aunt that nobody has reached yet, and because of her age no one is sure where she might be staying (apparently she is a little crazy).

At her moms house in Chaclacayo (about 25 miles east of Lima) everything on top of a dresser/desk ended up on the floor. Lots of broken perfume bottles and books all over the floor, but nothing else.

From talking to everyone it was a "shaker" not a "roller", and it really caused a lot of rockslides in the foothills around Lima.

I called my family the day of the earthquake around 8pm, they were ok, just a little nervous. The problem was yesterday, all the lines were down but he internet was ok. I'm worried 'cause I have a lot of friends in Paracas an Pisco.

Hope everyhing is ok with my 'compatriotas " in the VJ.

Saludos

Thanks to God everyone in my wife's family are fine. From my brother-in-laws account and based on news reports it would appear that worst affected areas are in Pisco and Ica. Pisco being right on the ocean and not up on a bluff as is Lima was also affected by a tidle wave (Tsunami). One of my brother-in-laws lives in Ica and saw first hand the destruction--he was outside and saw buildings collapse before him--luckily my nephews and nieces are all fine. Still some difficulty in making calls to the Ica and Pisco area. My wife has also told me that the hotels in Paracas (very near Pisco) were damaged by the terremoto (earthquake). That hotel is where we spent our honeymoon. Some tourist were amoung those injured and killed--at least one American citizen was killed as confirmed by the US Embassey.

I have just read that the 30,000 year old rock formation called "la catedral", located in the Paracas national reserve, was destroyed in its entirety by the 8 point earthquake. My wife and I visited this rock formation during our honeymoon, I will post photos later.

I appreciate the silence. I was In Pisco the night of the happening. My parents hometown. My wife is from Chepen a town near Chiclayo and i wanted her to see Pisco and meet my family. That was the owrst night of my life. Thanksfully we were walking down the street and not inside a house. It was a very devastating scene. Hopefully my family is ok.
