Ok, here is the question:

When Hamid goes to the interview, is this appropriate dress?

We talked when I was there in June about what he would wear for his interview. He has no dressy clothes--at least what I would consider dress clothes here. What do you think if he wears dressy jeans, more like dark denim dress pants. He (being a tailor) tailored them to his skinny body, but they sort of flair a little--not tight at all. They don't really look like jeans, more like dark denim slacks. He was also gonna wear a long sleeved white shirt with slim navy blue stripes. And I told him he's gotta tuck it in. They don't exactly dress like my vision of dressy...lol

Anyway, what is the verdict? We are talking about getting like black slip on loafer type shoes. He only has tennies, but has neat black ones. HELP!!! Thanks....Debbie and Hamid

I think as long as he looks presentable, he can wear anything. I wouldnt stress too much about this.

I think that sounds fine. I'm not sure what my husband wore, but he said there were people dressed in everything from suits to djellabas. I think as long as he looks relatively neat and like this is important to him everything will be fine.

Sounds just fine! Don't worry, there is no dress code, and what you describe is more than acceptable, including the black tennies. It will be a long day, so whatever he wears should be comfortable. Leave the cellphone and any bags outside.

I think my husband wore black jeans, white shirt, black leather jacket (this was in February). Our considerations were the long train ride (no opportunity to change clothes afterward) and a tight budget. He should look neat, certainly. My own feeling is that at a job interview, they're judging competency and professionalism, among other things. At a spouse/fiance visa interview, they're mostly judging sincerity/validity of relationship and security risk. So if he has a suit and feels relaxed wearing it, including during a long, hot train ride beforehand, if that is the case, then go for it. If a suit would stress the budget or make him look/feel uncomfortable and fidgety, I'd say go for something comfortable and neat, and be prompt, polite, and organized. Just MHO.

My husband went to his interview very casual. Button down plaid, short sleeved shirt and olive colored jeans/casual pants. He did wear black dress shoes. He was clean and neat and his interview went fine. I would just say no tee shirts especially ones with wording on them.

I think dressing for a business casual job interview is appropriate. For my SO I just dont want him in a tee shirt, jeans and sneakers. We have an age gap and dressing a bit more business casual will age him a bit...in shaa Allah. Give him more of a responsible look. But personally I think as long as he is clean and neat...it shows he cares...and thats all that counts. That first impression that he cares.
