Well a nice Howdy Doo to Florida for me, although it's WAYYY out there in the Atlantic, folks here are starting to prep for a possible impact of what would be a strong Hurricane Dean. Some models have it turning our way, some have it completely going through the Caribbean and into the Gulf of Mexico the way Katrina did. I've bought all my extras and put them away, I refuse to be running around like a crazy person newcomer at the last minute trying to get prepared. Our home was built in 2006 so we have hurricane impact construction and feel very safe. It's better to be safe than sorry and if it's not this one, there will be another. Not a pessimist but a realist when it comes to weather.

For all of you with loved ones in the Caribbean, Bahamas, SoFLa and the Gulf, ((hugs)) to you all and just remind your loved ones to prepare early and stay calm.

Funny, I just mentioned this in the Yardies thread.

Yah, it looks kind of scary at this point. My MIL, BIL, SIL's, nieces, and nephews all live right on the coast. Praying for them. At the very least, I suppose they will head inland over the weekend.

Good luck to you guys.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

The weather report says it is 39% humidity here in Santa Ana right now but it really feels like the Philippines. I was thinking it had to be in the 70% range or even higher. Maybe Flossie is making the humidity feel abnormally high

Hope your folks in Jamaica get through this one alright.

Seems to be steaming right for the island.

Doesn't look like it's going to bear down on FL.

This might change, of course.

Hurricane Dean...good name

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Although a really bad hurricane wouldn't be a good thing, a nice little tropical depression or storm in the gulf would bring some much needed rain to us here in the South! We could use some relief from the daily 100+ temps and horrible drought we've had all summer :(

Stay safe peeps. Hopefully this one won't hit us! Central FL suffered 4 hurricanes in one month in 2004...luckily my family wasn't affected, and I wasn't even in the country.

Hurricanes always make my job more difficult.

Once any storm is within a certain box on the map, insurance companies stop writing policies...no ins = no closing (if there's financing) = no sale = no money

:(

Mine too. I was just planning a trip to TX next Tuesday/Wednesday... Big Hurricane in the Gulf is bad news for air travel.

Looks like Tropical Storm Erin is already set to hit around the Galveston to Corpus Christie area. Sure was a slow start to the season but Mother Nature is making up for it. For those who like a one stop shopping source for Tropical weather of note, here is the best link I know:

http://www.crownweather.com/tropical.html

It has them all! plus advisories, and weather maps showing potentials and probable paths for all active tropical weather systems.

Problem is that the majority of the rain Erin is to bring ashore is supposed to hit an already saturated area. You guys in GA and AL are not gonna see any of that.
