Before this gets further off track, I want to clarify something---

If you get your shots BEFORE your visa medical, then you are done with all medical things forever. Nothing additional to do for AOS because your shots are recorded on an official government form.

If you get shots AFTER the exam, then your DS-3025 immunization sheet is NOT COMPLETE. The USCIS won't take a shot record from your GP. You will have to pay a USCIS designated Civil Surgeon to fill out Form I-693. Will that be a problem?? Well..the odds are YES, it will be a bother and expensive and frustrating to you. Many insist on doing an entire medical exam. Some insist on a TB skin test (even though you are cleared of TB by your chest x-ray). Some charge $100+. Some are hours away depending on where you live.

Read this from someone who did not get it done in advance http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/461012-medical-exam-for-aos-after-k1/

This is just one example of hundreds, from many countries, I have read and replied to.

Wouldn't it be easier to put a completed DS-3025 in your AOS packet and not have to go through these experiences?

Get shots BEFORE the medical, or

Pay for them AT the medical, or

Tell Knightsbridge to hold your medical report until you can get the shots and the proof faxed from your doctor's office.

It's penny wise and pound foolish to not get a complete report in London.

Thank you for that. That is really detailed and informative.

One more question (if you don't mind)

What shots are required? I'm picking my vaccination record up tomorrow from my doctors, so can cross reference this against any missing vaccinations.

Butting in again here :D

Had my exam yesterday and the doctor marked varicella as 'not readily available'. Will I have to get it in the US before we send my AOS package?

Thanks!

Varicella is another name for Chicken Pox and we don't have the vaccination for this in the UK. Have you never had Chicken Pox? If you have had chicken pox then you don't need the injection. If you haven't had chicken pox then I don't know how it works in the states. Somebody else may know the answer to that question though :)

When I booked my medical they mentioned a questionnaire/form to fill in that I would need to take to the medical. The lady on the phone did mention where to get the form from but I can't seem to recall it...it was the one thing I didn't write down! Does anybody know where I would be able to find this form?

Thanks.

I have my medical coming up next week so I'm going through this questionnaire. I have smoked tobacco before (like 10 cigarettes max in my life) but I'm not a smoker. Do I put no to this as I'm not a habitual user?

Many thanks

As a CR1 filer can I schedule a medical as soon as I get case complete from NVC or is it best to wait for an interview date first to make sure London has my files?

I can tell you from first hand experience that you should wait until you have an interview date and London embassy has your file. I originally booked mine as soon as I had my case number back in January and then dawned on me that I had no idea what would happen to my results if my case wasn't at the embassy to match them up with.

I called knightsbridge with this query and the lady told me they had been advised by the embassy not to examine applicants if their case is still at NVC as results can get misplaced.

The question says have you ever smoked tobacco, just say yes and then tell them if they ask you. The medical really is no big deal, they will ask you a few questions about your lifestyle, do you drink, if so how much etc etc. They dont expect everyone to be squeaky clean.

Unless you're coughing your lungs up or you tell them you smoke fifty a day they aren't going to care if you've smoked a few times in your life. Same with drink. The whole thing is far less harsh than some people think.

There's that smell again...

A week old question, but I haven't been here.

It is readily available in the US, so yes you will get one and pay a civil surgeon to put it and your other shots all on one new form, the I-693.

For immigrant visas like the CR1 who do not do AOS, "not readily available" allows a waiver. They will get a greencard upon entry to the US, so they must pass muster by the visa Interview. If they can't get a shot in their home country, the requirement is waived.

A K1 has time in the US to comply with requirements before they submit AOS application. So that waiver won't fly for you.
