Piece of advice for anyone waiting for their medical, and thinking that they may need a letter:

I came pre-armed with a letter from my GP, which the (very rude) doctor refused to accept. He insisted that I supply them with a new letter (which had the same content).

So- f you suspect that you will need a letter from your GP for any reason my advice is not to get one beforehand, but rather to have an appt with your GP set up for the day after the medical. If Knightsbridge need a letter, you can send a scan by email, so as soon as you have it, you will be able to send it and the medical paperwork won't be sitting at Knightsbridge for too long.

I was beyond peeved to have thought/planned ahead and end up running all over London to get a new letter anyway! Luckily my GP is wonderful, and I could beg for an appt asap and keep everything moving.

Good luck!

That is so annoying! I had my medical on Friday and brought a Dr's letter with me concerning an illness from several years ago and detailing medication I take for my psoriasis (topical steriods). I had a female Dr and she accepted it with no problems.

So it's difficult to say what is best! I'm glad I got my letter beforehand but then again I am lucky that my Drs does not charge for letters.

I have to say the medical went very smoothly, all three members of staff were very friendly, in particular the nurse who was very smiley and kind.

Aww, that sucks. After I went to all the trouble of paying £35 for a letter and for copies of the hospital reports of my condition :D if they don't want it then I guess I'll just have to go back to my GP afterwards... luckily they have a pretty quick turnaround for letters.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

I'm still waiting on my GP letter a week after asking for it. I'm going to call the doctors after work and chase it up. Don't they know my life is on hold while I wait for this letter!? lol - ok not my life but the visa process is anyway!

Mini-update:

I called the doctors and my letter is ready. Went straight away and picked it up. Reads really well and has all the information in it that the medical doctors asked for so all good.

I will scan it and email it to Knightsbridge Doctors at work tomorrow.

After that its just a matter of waiting for the interview date - feeling really excited.

Hi all

I am going to be having my medical in the next few weeks or so and I read somewhere that they have run out of MMR vaccinations? Can anyone confirm if this is the case? Also, I had one when I was 5, about 20 years ago. Does anyone know if MMR is a jab that needs to be given every ten years etc?

If they have run out I think it would be a better idea for me to get the jabs done before hand.

Thanks

I had my medical last week and I had no proof of vaccinations and the ones I could have had they marked as medical reasons and gave me a waiver. I assume then that it was because they weren't available. This was for MMR and for the DPT the rest were age specific. So I doubt you need to get them before you go. I didn't and wasn't an issue. I didn't even see the nurse.

The reason you was given a waiver is because you are going through K1, which means you don't need to have the vaccinations until the 90 days are up when you arrive in the states. I am going through CR-1 (spouse) so I need to have them before I enter go for my medical. I'll call them and find out what I need.

Thanks

I understand what you are saying as I know I don't need the vaccinations to enter the country / for my visa but I will need them for permanent residency. I wanted to have them to save me having to have them in the states as I know this can be a pain.

I am under the impression that because of what they put on my form that I won't need them and can submit the form along with my application for green card.

I could be wrong but I think I am ok and won't need to have them in the states. If not then whatever I will just have to find a civil doctor to give me them.

I really don't understand why they bother with a private medical when everyone in the UK has access to 'free' healthcare.

The UK doesn't make Americans get medicals when they apply for visas.

The assurance of high-quality, perhaps? I worked in an NHS hospital for a few years and the quality is very high, but perhaps 'paid for' medicine is seen as higher quality in some realms.

Or perhaps its something to do with public funding going towards someone actively seeking to leave the country. For example, when I went to my local NHS GP in East London I was told that they were not obliged (so wouldn't) to give me vaccinations etc. for emigration purposes. That is merely considered speculation, however.

Actually, the UK requires anybody intending to stay for more than 6mths to undergo a medical or depending where they're coming from, testing for TB. Plenty of other countries also require full medical examinations for visa's that lead to Permanent Residence, including Australia, NZ and Canada.

No country wants to accept an immigrant with TB or who has chronic, on-going health issues that may end up burdening their health care system.

Eventually, this will probably grow to include things like obesity. Eventually.
