I booked my medical Thursday, and the soonest available appointment was Wednesday 3rd of July. I would say your safe to book now and have plenty of time for the Police certificate to arrive.

Karl

Ah thank you so much! :)

I'm hoping to get the 9th July so I think I'll call tomorrow.

Do the photos have to be in US or UK size? I've seen some say it doesn't matter, some say the London Embassy states US size and then others say Knightsbridge cut it down to UK size anyway.

I think Knightsbridge will take either, and for the embassy it has to be US sized.

For my medical I'm just taking both and letting them choose.

When I booked my medical, I asked them on the phone which they wanted, and they said it didn't matter.

What's the general feeling towards mentioning contraception on the questionnaire? Wondering if I should put the pill under medication or not.

Hi Laura Clare,

I put yes on the questionnaire to "are you taking medication" and attatched a sheet that had the name of my contraception. I was terrified to get any question wrong so I was 100% honest.

However, when I got through to my doctor (a cheerful Asian guy) he was worried that I had put it down - he said it would give the embassy the wrong impression if they just saw this ticked box and didnt look overleaf! He wrote on the front for me in big letters "Contraception only!" and said noone puts contraception down and that I could have left it blank.

I have to say this does confuse me though, as I have always viewed the pill as medication and therefore I don't know how you can answer honestly without putting it down, but maybe I'm just too uptight about getting everything right on these forms - I think this is what the visa process does to you.

Anyway, hope this helps, I have it from the mouth of a doctor there that you don't have to. You can also just wait until you get there and ask the receptionist. I took this approach with the smoking question, because the questionaire you bring along with you asks "have you ever smoked" which I answered yes to. However, the other questionnaire i was given on the day said something like "are you or have you been a smoker" to which I felt that having only tried it once I should not answer yes to. She said to answer yes to that too though. So I guess they are really ####### about a couple things like that and then totally relaxed about contraception :P but anyway..

Sorry, I digress a little but the info you want should be at the top! Almost 100% crazy now as I'm 8 days out from interview...

So you have to list yourself as a smoker even if you aren't if you've only tried it a handful of times? :S

Oh that's great, thanks! I think I will just tick 'no' to medication then. Keep things simple and whatnot.

I know what you mean about getting everything right on the forms. I'm so scared about missing something or getting it wrong, I think I've gone over every form we've submitted about 20 times.

Well, I don't know. But the questionnaire you print at home definitely asks "have you ever used tobacco". The way thats phrased, I think if you have done so, the honest answer would be yes. Its the other one that was worded differently that worried me. Anyway, its a silly technicality as they wouldn't be able to care if you were a smoker! If they ask you about it you can just say it was just a couple of times :)

The reason I decided to own up to it was I felt if i said no, they'd be suspicious that I was lying as i feel a lot of people try it once but then there is me over thinking it! I wouldnt worry :)

I've tried it probably about 5 times in my life, and there's a pic of me on Facebook with a cigar. So I should probably put yes to the tobacco use, though I would definitely not consider myself a smoker.
