I'm sorry because I think I've asked this question before but I just wanted to be certain about this - we got our NOA2 yesterday after almost 9 months of waiting, so I'm trying to get all our ducks in a row.

I'm currently in the US but intend to go for my medical the day after I arrive back in the UK at the end of May. I only have one copy of my Police Certificate. I want to be certain that the doctors only need to see the original and will then retain a copy of it that I will bring along. Is this correct? I believe that the Police Certificate is needed for later in the process.

I wish I had asked for 2 copies of the darn certificate to be provided when I ordered it. Oh well. You live and learn.

They will give you back the original police certificate at the end of your medical.

Good luck!

I had my medical yesterday, I was incredibly nervous because I have white coat hypertension and my bp can go off the scale.......BUT the doctor was lovely, very chatty and calming. My first reading was high, she didn't tell me the figures because she knew I would panic, but retook it after the rest of the examination and it had come down enough for her to accept it. She added there was little point sending me to my own GP since I don't get 'real' readings there either. So that's the next to last step completed, and I feel like a weight is now being lifted from my shoulders.

Hello :)

I wanted to wait a couple of days before I gave my little review of the medical just incase I got a call from them. As of this point I haven't heard anything so as the y said "no news is good news"

For the last 2/3 weeks I have been on edge and incredibly anxious about the medical, thinking anything happening in my body might be something bad that would come up. Any funky breath or odd feeling in my chest would blow up in my mind to something MASSIVE!! I was counting down the days for the medical to come and wishing for it be a week on when I could say that everything was actually fine and my fiancee could say she told me so.

So the day had arrived.

My appointment was on Monday 22 April. I left my home, Plymouth at 7:50 and got into Paddington at around 11:50. From there I walked to Oxford Street, surprisingly not really that far from paddington station, maybe a 15/20 minute walk. Was nicer then getting the tube. Once I got into Oxford Street I carried on down and the street just after the Disney Store, Marlyebone Lane, and headed down there towards Bentinck Mansions which was on the right hand side. climbed the stars to the main door and saw the little sign saying Knightsbridge Doctors and buzzed the buzzer (number 4) to hear the door suddenly unlock. Once getting into the building I went through to the reception window, was greeted, confirmed and handed all the necessary paperwork (passport photo, passport, PC, Vac Records and Questionnaire) and I was given a new questionnaire to fill in. This one was the official US government form, pretty much the same questions worded a little differently ( as I read on here before the Yes and No boxes have been flipped around, thank you VJ for that one :). Handed that one back to reception and waited for maybe about 5 minutes before getting called up by the nurse to go through my vaccination records, everything went well there, didnt need anything so was over in about 5 minutes, just as she opened the door the gentleman who does the X-Rays was ready to go so a quick left turn in to the x-ray room and the next stage began. He asked me if I had every had one done before (I had not) and if I had ever been injured or anything around my chest (nope to that) and then asked me to remove my shirt and watch and stand up against a black plate with my chin on the rest above it. I then had my hands to the side of my waist and held led thing around me bum area. The camera thing was behind me, he turned of the light and asked me to take a deep breath and some noise happened and done! He then put the plate into this reader and the image appeared on the computer. I asked how it looked and he said it looked normal to him. This was probably the most nervous I have been in a long time. Having never had an x ray before I didn't know what was going to show up so I was very relieved.

He then asked me to put my shirt back on and then wait back in the waiting area for the doctor.

5 more minutes past and the doctor called me into the room.

I signed my passport photo and a government form and then she went through the questionnaire. after that she asked me to do a sight test, standing up looking at the letters. from there I sat on the bed, where she checked my eyes, ears inside my mouth, glands and then took my blood pressure and heart beat from my chest and around my back. she said good to everything so all was well there. I then had to lie down on the bed and she had a quick look downstairs, asked me to cough and that was it. no touching. and then took my blood.

She said all looked fine and I needed to wait back in the waiting area whilst she finished the paperwork and I would be called back by the receptionist to collect my passport etc and to make payment.

All together it took about 45/50 minutes and came to 227.00. So glad that bit was done, was a very nerving time before hand but like everyone else said on here, the actual medical is so much easier and nicer then how it plays out in your head. So thank you guys who write up review on here, help me to understand what to expect.

Mine was yesterday too... Had to get a train to waterloo and go to Bond Street tube station. I took a friend with me as I am iffy with tight spaces...

Found the place after a few minutes of wandering around. Went to first window in the flat, handed over vaccination sheet from my doctor, police check, passport etc. Told to go and sit down - nothing was said about my friend etc. Sat down for maybe 5 mins - called through to Xray.

Answered some questions - have had chest xray before too so familiar with procedure - had to strip to waist & put gown on. Hair tied up, put chin on bar, hands on waist holding a lead apron around my kidneys.... Laughing with guy about the coffee in my stomach that showed on xray, wanted to know if he could spot my bacon sarnie.

Into another waiting room, still in gown. Male doctor calls me in - no chaperone offered but I don't care, so not an issue. Signed my photo and the medical form. He asked about a box I'd ticked yes to - hospitalisation - I had various leg surgeries. He then weighed and measured me, had an eye test. Sat on the bed, tested my knee reflexes, felt my glands, looked into my eyes and mouth. Asked about scarring from my surgery, showed him that. He listened to my chest, asked me to breathe etc. He asked me to lay down and asked if I checked my breasts every month. He began to feel my boobs and told me how to self-check.

Then he sat me up & let me do gown back up. Took blood pressure and blood. We chatted about my job for a few minutes. I had a large gash on my arm and he asked about that. I got dressed, he said everything was ok and he put me back in the main waiting room. I was called to reception, had to pay, collect my documents etc.

All done - no dreaded gender check or anything.

Must admit, I'm sort of the same :P I don't like to leave any uncertainties in this process and I don't want any surprises at the medical, so I had an STD test, blood test and chest x-ray in January just to make sure I'm all alright. At least now I can go in there 100% knowing I'm fine and they won't find anything.

Nope, got it all done at the NHS. If you go to your local hospital/health clinic, you can get a free STD test which includes a blood test. The chest X-ray was for something different because my dad had a heart attack last year, but my ECG/chest x-ray came back completely normal and the doctor even said he doesn't know why it was suggested I have one done, and my heart is completely healthy. So I've had all the medical checks I could possibly have prior to the proper one, and I even caught chickenpox last month (unintentionally) which also prepares me for the varicella part lol.

I got the date for my CR1 interview today - June 10th. So now what I have to do is book the medical in London. I noticed that you have to take your police certificate to the medical, I only ordered one copy in december because money was tight and couldn't afford the extra £6 for a copy. The original was sent to NVC in New Hampshire.

My question is, will a copy of my police certificate suffice for the medical? I also noticed on the list of documents I need to take to the interview that it says 'current police certificate'. Why would I need to take another original if they will have my original at the interview?

I'm just so concerned I haven't got enough time to apply for another.

Can any one put my mind at rest regarding this matter?

Thank you in advance x

They will accept your photocopy at the medical.

The list for the interview may include things you sent off to NVC. It's a generic list. If you sent an original to NVC, it will already be in your file so no need to bring another original.

Thank you so much for answering my concerns Nich-Nick. Can't tell you how relieved I am to hear that I don't have to apply for another police certificate.

I did think the list of documents to bring was generic, wish they could list what's needed by each individual case because then it would take the concern and worry off so many people's minds...

Thank again, I appreciate it...

I'm slightly worried about having my blood pressure taken. I suffer from white coat hypertension - that is, when I'm in a situation where my blood pressure is being measured by a doctor/nurse, my blood pressure rises. If I measure it at home, it is fine. I have even taken my cuff into the doctors and we've measured it at the same time so I can show her that it's the situation, not my blood pressure that's the problem.

I know that my blood pressure is likely to elevate at the medical - last time I had it measured by the doctor it was 160/98. Is taking my blood pressure just part of the process or could they suggest that I go to my doctor and be prescribed medication for hyper-tension and 'fail' my medical? And I would have to re-do the medical after my blood pressure is artificially reduced? Would it be best if I just mentioned the 'white coat' thing at the beginning of the medical?

I'm not entirely sure why BP is even taken. The medical grounds for inadmissabilty for a visa are as I understand it

1) Communicable disease of public health significance

2) Failure to show proof of vaccinations

3) Mental health

4) Addiction or substance abuse

As an addition I can see why doctors have the lovely task of checking sex by checking your bits but apart from that ?

Thanks - that's put my mind at rest (and probably reduced my blood pressure smile.png ).

Yes - I told my fiance about the 'checking external genitalia' bit and he went 'What?' I said 'They need to check that you are the gender you say you are on the paperwork'.

This is the bit that concerns me the most....not because I'm not who I say I am, just not quite sure how they go about it.....
