So I've read through most of this thread and something that keeps coming up is the history of anxiety/stress/depression. Everyone on here has talked about a past episode and that they are no longer being treated for the condition. If you are currently on antidepressants and strong pain medication, will this be a problem? My fiance deals with pain and associated anxiety stemming from an abusive relationship and three major auto accidents that have caused some back problems and made being a single dad to two kids very challenging. He does very well, holds a teaching job, is a scout leader, etc. so it's not a debilitation form of depression and the pain is tolerable with his medication. As a doctor in the states, I'd look at his record and think nothing of it. But everything about this process makes me nervous. From what I've read, he won't have a problem because of his asthma and I'm guessing he won't be turned down because he walks with the aid of a cane for long distances. I am concerned that they will have an issue because he takes painkillers and an antidepressant daily. Does anyone have experience with this?

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

I had my medical this morning at 9:30am at Bentink Mansions. I found it easily and I was around 40 mins early. I had some tea and toast in a small cafe in the street opposite called Between The Slice. Lovely friendly little place to relax beforehand. I handed in my documents to reception and filled out another questionnaire for the embassy. I sat I the waiting room and I was called by Dr.Fong. She was so lovely. She made me feel really relaxed and she went through my initial questionnaire on their website. She took my weight and I did the eye test. Next up was my blood pressure, listening to my chest and she felt my tummy. She then took osme blood. I didn't have the gender check but she did check my breasts and nipples for scaring which I though was a bit odd. I went back to the waiting room and waited for my chest X-ray. After a few minutes I was called by an middle aged blonde lady. I dressed into the dressing town and held the lead plate in the awkward position they make you do. One deep breathe and it was over! Again, back to the waiting room and I waited to see the vaccination nurse. I saw the blonde lady with what I'd guess was a south African accent. She went through my jabs and I was up to date apart from the new requirement which is the flu jab. Rather than get it done at my doctors and wait for them to send over the confirmation that's I'd had it, I had it done on the spot. £21. I paid my fees at reception and I was off. In and out in an hour.

If you've had depression or any mental issues, I'd suggest getting a letter from your doctors to state your current health, any treatment you're having or have had. I have to go to my doctor tomorrow to get this and once Knightsbridge have this they'll send my results to the embassy.

All in all, my experience was fine. I don't know why I was so nervous!

Quick question for you all related to the depression issue. My husband is due to have his medical any day now, and he is currently taking medication for depression. He's never self harmed or been a danger at all, everything is very much under control. We read here that it is best to have a letter from your GP stating that you are under treatment and have a good prognosis. The trouble is, he went to his GP recently and asked for the letter, making clear that it is for the medical for immigration (we've kept the GP up to date throughout the process, so it was hardly a surprise to her). However, she has refused to write a letter, citing something about doctor-patient confidentiality. I don't understand how writing a letter for the patient requested by the patient for another doctor could violate confidentiality, but maybe I'm missing something. Has anyone else dealt with an uncooperative GP, and does anyone have any ideas of what our next step should be?

My doctor was a complete pain in the ####! I finally managed to get her to write a letter and fax it. It took her a week and I had to pay £20 for it. When your husband goes to the medical, if they want more info, the doctor will write him a letter on Knightsbridge headed paper to give to his doctor stating everything they need. I should think that would be enough for the doctor to do something.

Is there a practice manager you can talk too or another doctor at his surgery? I pestered them everyday until they got sick of me and finally did it today.

hey guys, I had my medical last week, I did make a post somewhere but thought id post here too with a question

Medical went fine exept for my blood pressure, it was 160/100. waited 10 min, was the same, she told me that I would need my doc to clarify the situation, and fax the results.

went to my doctors yesterday, they did my bp. was 140/97 or something, but I came to the appointment prepared, doc said she would write a letter for me to send to Knightsbridge, heres what it said

Dear Dr Cronje

This is to confirm that XXXXXX will be attending for a 24 hour blood pressure monitor on monday 26th march for assessment of his high blood pressure. He tells me that his home blood pressure readings are satisfactory, I feel that he suffers from an element of white coat hypertenssion disorder.

yours sincerely

xxx

the letter is on a letterhead and signed ect, but my surgerys fax machine was broken, so i called knightsbrige, they said it would be fine if i scanned an emailed it. the letter was slightly innacurate, my blood pressure readings werent at home. they where at work, I work at a residential home , and they have a bp monitor that I asked the manager, who happens to be a registered nurse, to take my BP daily,

so with the doctors note, I also sent a letter from the manager/nurse at my place of employment which had 3 weeks worth bp readings on it ( all normal bar the day before my medical lol ), also on an official letterhead, also signed by the nurse at my place of employment.

do you think this will surfice for them to release my medical documents to the embassy? I wont know till monday, just wondering if anyone has had anything similar and was ok. im hoping they wont wait till the 24 hour bp results before releasing it..

I've just got case completed at NVC, so will be booking my medical soon.

I haven't been to the doctor in about three years at least - am I'm still registered with a GP in the city I lived in three years ago, not a GP in the place I live now. I have NO idea where my NHS records/vaccination history will be as I've moved around the country a fair bit. Is this going to be an issue - or can I rock up to Knightsbridge and get the relevant vaccinations?

Yes you can get them there but it'll cost you!

this is the link to info about the medical... theres a selection on the right that will show you all the fees for the different vaccinations if you have them at Knightsbridge! Maybe it would be cheaper for you to contact the GP you used as a child and ask if they have a copy of your vaccinations from childhood? May be worth a shot if it saves you money!

I went for my medical yesterday and the examiner there has given me a letter to give my GP basically saying that I need to be tested so see if I have asthma. My question is, do I have to wait until I send off my results of my asthma test before I can send off my check-list? Also will it effect my application if I do have asthma? X

As soon as your results reach Knightsbridge, they will send your medical results onto the embassy. Having asthma wont effect your case. Its not contagious. You can send off your checklist now. I sent mine before I had my medical.

Hi xjoseyx, thanx for your last repy! do you have any tips and advice which will be helpful. I am so nervous going through all this :help: LOL

You should be fine to send of your DS156K etc now. They need them ahead of your interview. They wont even schedule an interview for you until they receive your medical results from your doctor which Knightsbridge will send once theyve recieved them from you. It took about 2 weeks for my medical notes to get to the embassy from the time i had my medical because I had to provide extra info like yourself. Dont stress about it! I know thats easier said than done though. I cant really offer any advice other than to make sure you have everything in order so its easier and less stressful.

That's reassured me tons, ta chic. One other thing I'm unsure about is on form ds-156, one of the first questions they ask is about insurance. How do I answer that, cause I ain't got insurance but as soon as I move over to the states my fiancée will put me on his insurance. Do you remember what you done for that question? X
