...and even a physical check for testicular cancer. (Has anyone else had the doctor offer this?)

Yes my fiance had his '2 Veg' inspected. He mentioned it only cause he said she spent a little extra time on the left one and that freaked him out a bit.

So here it the breakdown of his medical and a question for everyone too..

His appointment was on Wednesday the 15th of June. He was 15 minutes late due to the complete failure of the train lines that day. Long story short he had to spend 100 quid to get there via taxi. It was a mess! Anyway he was in and out in about an hour. After he arrived he had to fill in some general questionnaire paperwork and then was quickly taken in for his vaccinations and was then told he needed to get an MMR booster shot in 4 weeks. After that he was whisked over to get his chest x-ray, had to stand awkward carrying the lead apron as described by others for about 10 seconds and that was done. He said the x-ray guy was short, round and funny lol and that this guy told him that his chest x-ray looked normal. He went back into the waiting room for about 10 minutes till he saw the doctor. She sat him down asked him general questions like do your wear glasses, are you taking any medication, etc... then asked him to remove shoes and weighed him and measured his height. After that she asked about his police record, if it came back no trace (which it did) and asked if he has ever harmed himself or others to which he replied "Nope". Then he was asked to strip down to his underwear and lay on the exam table. She checked his reflexes, looked at his feet, examined his testicles (spent a bit of time on the left one), listened to his lungs and heart, took his blood pressure and drew some blood. After that he got dressed and she had him do the eye exam. She commented on his high blood pressure at this point and thought it was odd that his doctor doesn't want to review till November (he is on medication for this) but said he passed the blood pressure part of the medical anyway. After that he walked back into the waiting area, was shouted by the receptionist, paid his medical fee and was given his DS-3025, and a receipt for everything. He was told explicitly NOT to give these to the embassy as they will keep them to make copies. They also said he would hear back from them in a few days if there was any abnormalities in his blood test.

So there you have it a quick run down of his experience. Now here is our question... He is a little freaked out that she didn't check his ears, nose and throat with the little light. He is afraid he is gonna fail the interview cause of it. Anyone else not get the ear, nose throat checked? Would appreciate any feedback on that. Thanks!!

I was given the ENT exam... can't help other than that.

But I didn't have a ball cancer check either :o I saw the tall-ish older Swedish? lady doctor. Blonde hair, glasses, friendly.

I was wondering, it seems my fiance had a Mumps shot ans Measles (unfortunately it is not in his document, so I suppose it does not exist). Basically.. should we try to get him an MMR at a GP before the interview. How much easier will this make the AOS the status down the line? Thanks!

And if you didn't get a response, it says:

You may schedule an appointment by telephoning 020 7486 7822, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

You must quote your case number when making your call and confirm the date of your visa appointment, if one has already been scheduled for you. Appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis.

This is the information:

also, i was wondering what the deal is with the vaccinations. on the us embassy site it says K1 visa applicants do not need the full list of vaccinations at the medical. i understand these will be needed in time for the AOS once the visa has been approved. I am currently in the USA and we received our NVC documents this week. I am going home on August 2nd and wanted to book my medical for August 3rd since i will be in London anyway. I have a feeling im going to need a top up on my tetanus and MMR injections. I was wondering if i could go to the interview without these top ups and get them done afterwards on the NHS if the vaccination guidelines arent required until the AOS phase. thanks

Yes that is accurate, you won't need them until AOS occurs.

In case anyone can take anything helpful out of this:

Had an 8.50 appointment today and arrived early (around 8am) because train times worked out that way. They will only let you in from 8.30 so I loitered around until then - there are a few cafe / breakfast places in case anyone was wondering.

The staff was friendly, took my paperwork and sent me off with another piece of paper, then the x-ray guy picked me up to have the TB x-ray done. Ladies (and gents) with long hair beware - they have to be tied up in a bun at the top of your head so unless you wish to borrow the hair-clip the guy has sitting on his desk bring something to tie them up. Also had to undress top half completely and put on a bathrobe kind of garment.

After x-ray I was sent in a second waiting room, still in that robe with my clothes in hand, not feeling very dignified. About 15-20 min later the doctor came to pick me up, asked me about my medication and then got me to lie down to listen to heart and breathing and then she did a breast-cancer check-up. She took my blood pressure and took some blood and I was allowed to put my clothes back on and sent back to the first waiting room to wait for the vaccination nurse.

A little while later I was called to the reception desk again - the nurse said she'd gone through my vaccination records and everything is fine, told me not to take the form to the embassy as they'd have their own and told me should anything show on my blood test / x-ray they would be in touch in the next few days, otherwise the results will be with the embassy within 4 working days.

All in all was in there for just over an hour and the only other point to note was that the first waiting room didn't appear to have any magazines or other reading materials lying around, so you might want to bring something to read in case they do run behind schedule.

Now waiting for packet 4, hoping for an early date :)

I had mine today, was better than expected. I have to get a better vaccination record, signed by a doctor. The receptionist at my GP wrote mine out on a post it or something. I knew that wouldnt be good enough but I didnt have the balls to say. She cleared it because of the whole AOS thing. Be warned, get a good copy! She says it happens a lot.

I had the xray, was fine, the guy was nice and friendly

I had the female doctor... south african? Had all the usual, but no one really mentioned getting checked for FEMALE CIRCUMCISION???? Maybe they just do them at random, I dont know. Anyway, she was very nice and I had been kind of worried after the prior reviews. But she was nice and friendly.

anyways, I have to get a GP letter about my anxiety problem but after that I am good to go!

One more hurdle... jumped... ?

That's not the Bentnick Mansions location where all medicals are now done. So no, it won't look like that.

I'm pretty certain that's the building on the corner with the door next to the red Royal Mail van (perhaps someone's who has actually been could confirm). I have my medical next week

I wouldn't be too nervous- they are only checking for a limited amount of health issues which most people easily pass. By most accounts, the medical is a case of "is that it?" once it's over with. Sounds very quick and hassle free. I have mine on Wednesday and I am a little nervous....who knows what might turn up on the xray, etc, but I'm 99% sure it'll be fine.

According to the (updated Aug 2011) guidance for the medical on the Embassy website you should take "one passport type photograph of each person requiring a medical, including babies. The specifications of the photograph are the same as those obtained for the visa."

Although I'm sure I've heard of people giving UK sized passport photos. To be safe I'm taking 2 of each size (UK and US).

Good luck. Let us know how it goes :)

At the medical they will take either size. My husband had some of each and asked which she preferred. She told him she'd take the UK one (smaller) because the US size was too big to fit their form and they had to cut it down with scissors. So whatever you have is fine. Don't make a special photo for the medical if you have a spare UK one lying around (like from your police certificate photo taking.)
