Hello all. My fiance hasn't had his medical scheduled yet, but I have a question. He's from NI and really doesn't want to fly to London twice if he doesn't have to. Is there a way to schedule his medical on the same day as his interview, or can he do it the day before his interview, something like that? We're all tight on money, and staying in a hotel or pay for 2 plane tickets kind of sucks. We're both really stressed about all of this and would love some advice. I guess what I'm really asking is how long in advance does he have to have his Medical so that everything goes smoothly for his interview??

Thanks

J

It has to happen before his interview, or they'll cancel the interview but they only ask for it to be a week before not insist that it is. Since every interviewsw that we've seen recently happens first thing in the AM, I'd arrange for his medical to happen the day before his interview, as they do offer afternoon appointments. Alterantively, price up a same day "first flight in, last flight out" type travel, with his appointment around lunch time and see if it's workable that way.

Just remember if there's not 4 working days between his medical and his interview, the best they can give him is "approved pending medical" after his interview and it could delay his getting his visa somewhat, so definately don't book his flight until visa is in hand.

Waza - our medical is tomorrow too! See you there maybe? lol..

My fiance had his medical today in London. I've gone through several posts on this site and looked up information on the US Embassy in London's site, and the pdf medical information they provide and everywhere it says the cost for an adult medical is £190. When he went to pay they told him it was £230. He asked why and was told the blood work they do is not included in the £190 and cost an additional £40. I saw someone on here post just last week about their experience with the medical and they only paid £190 as well. Has anyone else been charged more than £190? He didn't have anything out of the norm done, just the required medical.

Dont know why they charged you that, i had mine on the 18th May and they charged me £190. I had the routine blood test done. Seems pretty strange if they didn't do anything different than normal.

From what I read on the london embassy site the fees of the medical has gone up to £200 from june 1st... http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/iv/medexam.html The information is there..

I'm going gthrough hell here still.

Can anyone tell me ####### will happen to me if I tested positive for TB antibodies so I never got the TB jab in high school?

I was exposed to TB via my sister who was similarly exposed to a child in her class who came back from India with full blown TB. Now because of the exposure we developed resistance to TB.

This all seems too complicated for me to possibly deal with and I don't know what to do.

It's this on top of self harming in the past.

I'm going through absolute hell.

"If your PPD skin test is positive, you will likely have a chest X-ray and a physical exam to find out whether you have active TB"

Really?

\

REALLY?

The NHS are nothing short of full on, spazzed out, rolling on the ground, hand flailingly USELESS

I swas the ONLY person to test positive in the school. The reaction weas "Oh" when I told the nurse about my sister's exposure (and the subsequent hospitalisation of her entire class.)

And I was all "HAHA I DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A CIRCLE OF NEEDLES STUCK IN MY ARM NOW!" God what a fool I am!

God they've ruined my life a hundred times over. The NHS I mean. They've ruined my life many other times, this is just another one to add to the pile.

My God.

The worst that could come of this is your medical classification would be B instead of A and you would still be cleared for your medical.

You are only denied admission to the US (or I should say required treatment before admission) if you test positive for active tuberculosis.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

Chances are, you don't have TB. Otherwise you would know about it. My God.

Is there anything else that you want to make an issue out of? Don't know if you have TB, don't know what to do with your cat, don't know what's on your medical records, don't know how to support without government help... as I said the other day:

People have tried to help you, again and again, but you've never responded to them. All you ever do is re-post why you're so afraid, and defend yourself against accusations that you need to seek help if you continue to act this way.

If you really want your visa, quit acting like a victim, and listen to people that give you advice.

I don't think I have TB.

I however quite obviously had the latent infection and fought it off. So I never had the vaccine. I don;t have the scar everyobne else has.

What I'm very confused about is if my sister was treated for possible infection and had the full tests, why her family were not tested/treated if the chance of developing the disease is 1 in 10 if you are exposed via an infected person.

And I'm worried that having had the exposure I'm going to have to pay for furthur tests.

There's no need to go off on me. You seriously would not be worried you might need extra testing if this was the case for you?

And btw the USA does very much victimise those with minor self harm.

I'm diagnosed with a biological disorder that occurs in 3% of people and was recently found to be due to a genetic fault.

It meansd you tear your hair out when stressed. It is found in everything from mice to humans. It is documented in the bible and handed down in platitudes, it's so common and frequent - "I'm tearing my hair out with worry here!" But as it's self harm I have to fight it and fight it hard. And yes, I do feel discriminated against, I do feel like a victim. The damage IS visible. The worry over it IS causing me extra anxiety.

And the cat is a concern. I don;t know the origins of this cat. I don;t know if he is chipped, I'm frightened to find out. I took the cat in, he was effectively a stray. If he's been chipped by the neighbours who abandoned him, I don;t know where they went. I'm worried about losing my cat. My cat is basically all I have here.

I don;t know if people realise this but I came to the UK only 2 years ago having lost the country I had come to love and spent half my adult life in. I have since worked 8-12 hours a day in the UK trying to build up to sponsoring my husband's visa (which we;ve since abandoned the idea of as both of us prefer the USA). I have no friebnds and no social life. My old friends all live in London and I can no longer afford to live there nor have time to visit. I have a little cat and since I left my husband in the UK, that cat is the only living thing I;ve had to keep me company. This is 100%, not a joke. I have basically nobody. I can;t even get time off work to visit my husband - well, they gave me one week when I wanted and had annual leave left over for up to 4. I suppose I could ring them and demand it but I am not the demanding type. and I remain well aware of possible refusal and the need to preserve the chance of getting the Uk visa in the future.

And my family are so abusive and I only really wanted to get the US visa becauise I went there and his family were so nice and so accepting.... I;'ve never been treated so well by anyone in my life. I almost wish I hadn't gone there because up to that point we were all for the UK visa, we knew I had issues that meant the US one was iffy.

Few things you could do.

Contact your Gp and discuss your concern with him/her.

My own medical history is very complicated. Several rare conditions. I have not only contacted my GP but also spoke to my Hospital Consultant, who very kindly and free of charge, wrote the most positive *all things considered* letter

on my behalf.

I can take this letter to my medical and my visa interview just incase my medical conditions raise questions.

If after all of this, they still have questions, they are more than welcome to pull my medical files, run tests or w/e they like.

I have even been consulting with my Gps practice Nurse as to the vaccinations that are needed and she has been vaccinating and helping me pull my vac records for a few weeks now.

As for the cat. I realise your attached to it, have 3 of my own. What i would do is simply book the cat into a Vet for a check up..They can check themselves to see if the cat is chipped.

You say the neighbours abandoned him. So why would you think it would be taken away from you? You love the animal, take care of it and obviously have provided a home.

Its a stray? then you are the owner of that animal now.

Lastly try to keep calm. You do your health no good at all by worrying like this.

Im no expert on self harm, but i have read other peoples stories who have been succesful in the Visa process. Try keep that in mind. You must try think positive. Onwards and upwards! Good luck
