Hospitalised I took as meaning if you had an overnight stay for anything. I did back when I was 5 so I declared that.

What about day surgeries? I'd think if they put a hospital ID bracelet on you, you've been hospitalized...

Its my big medical day tomorrow.. and its going to be along one.. to get the train ticket prices down i will be setting off at 9am and wont be back in halifax until 12 midnight. oh the joys of the british transport system..

If i had the nerve to navigate london in a car i would.. but its just not worth the hassle, last time i got lost in london in my car it took me HOURS to get out of there.. The train, as slow and expensive as is it is definatly the lesser of two evils.

One more step after this and i will be back in the states.. wooooop di dooooooooo...

Well i made it..

The train journey, as i expected was about the worst part of the day.. but thankfully having booked a seat i didnt have to stand on the morning train..

I arrived in London at Kingcross station at around 12.00, from there i jumped on the the underground, the victoria line, and got off at Oxford circus. The map from the doctors shows that bond street station in closer, but to get to Bond street from kings cross means a change at Oxford circus onto the central line, and to be honest the distance between the two hardly makes it worth while.. its about 5 minutes walk to bond street from oxford circus and theres plenty of shops if you are that way inclined..

I found Bentinck Mansions very easily using the map provided. I arrived there at around 12.30 and so was far too early to chance it at going in as my appointment wasn't until 2.10.. So i went around the corner to a little cafe and had a coffee and sandwich.

Rather than getting lost in the streets of London i decided to have a walk round the area just to waste some time.. and this is where my biggest tip for the day comes.. Just along the road from the doctors is Manchester Square which is the location on the Wallace collection (If you are standing facing the Doctors it is along the road to the right). This place is a museum/stately home and the best bit is that its totally free to go in and have a look around, and seriously if you have the time make sure you go in!!!. My favourite was the armoury section but there are many antiques and incredible things to look at..

So i looked round in there until 2.00 and then headed back to Bentinck Mansions, the door is kept lock so i had to press the buzzer and was let in.

The whole thing took around an hour.

First i was asked for my passport, vaccination records and medical questionnaire, and then handed another questionnaire which i had to fill in and return. This, as most in this thread have said, was pretty much the same as the one i already handed in but looked more official. Again the first question on the form was have you been hospitalised, so i asked if this ment visits to A&E and was told that "Yes that cover things like that".

After about 15 minuites i was called up and was led into a room to chat about the vaccinations.. She said i needed the MMR, which i already knew and she showed me the vaccination form DS-3025(?) and asked what visa i was applying for.. when i said K1 she said i didnt require the vaccinations and that i would need the MMR for the AOS, and then said "you already know all this right" and yes i did , she asked when i planned on getting the MMR and i said before the AOS, she was very nice and relaxed and said she would sign off the vaccination records. :-)

I then went through too the next room for the X-ray, i had to strip to the waist and stand in front of the x-ray board and all that was over in a couple of minutes.

After a few minutes in the waiting room again, i was called up by an irish doctor who was very plesant, he took my weight, height and asked a few questions about my health and it seems the main concern for them is TB.. Next he listened to my heart and lungs, did a bit more prodding around and took some blood.. I too got away with no downstairs checks, i guess with my manly good looks there was no question about my sex

We actually spent most of the time talking about plants, he found out i am a horticlturist and was asking for some plants he could use in his containers at home, he even asked me to write a list :-) which i did..

It was a very relaxed atmosphere and the whole thing was over by 3.00pm. I was told to take a seat in the waiting room again, i think this is just a precaution after having given blood and also so the reception can get the paper work ready and after a few minutes i was called to come and pay when ready.

I was given the DS-3025, vaccination form, and told to keep it safe, then paid and left.

All i had to do now was waste four and a half hours in london, which for me was a real challenge, i am purely and simply a country boy and i have little/no tollerance of many people and my idea of shopping is to go into town get what i need and get the hell out of there, so the next few hours was pretty tough.. i am still suffering from people shock.

I finally got back to Halifax at around 11.30pm and that was about the jist of my day.

Good luck to all who have upcoming apponitment and i hope it all goes well.

My fiance's medical appointment was today. Unfortunately, we hit a medical over bipolar disorder that hopefully people can avoid based on our experience.

My fiance has bipolar, but it's relatively minor and has been mostly inactive for a long time. He's never been a threat to himself or anyone else, and he hasn't seen a doctor about bipolar for years. However, we knew the Knightsbridge doctors might want verification that he doesn't pose a threat to himself or others, so we called his GP and asked for a letter he could take to the Knighstbridge doctors. His GP was very reluctant to give us anything - he said he didn't know what the Knightsbridge doctors wanted and didn't want to just give a statement without knowing the full story. As a result, my fiance went to the Knightsbridge doctors without a note and - lo and behold - the Knightsbridge doctors said they wouldn't move forward without verification from the GP about bipolar. They faxed the GP a form letter asking for information, which hopefully the GP will answer quickly.

If I were doing this again, I would call the Knightsbridge doctors ahead of time and ask for that form letter so that we could get the GP's response before the medical appointment.

Hi all, just thought I'd update you on my medical experience today. My appt was for 12.50 at the one near bond street station. Gave in all my documents and filled in another form then waited. Saw a nurse who went through the visa type said I needed MMR even though I'd got as a child apparently need 2 doses for the USA and a tetnus booster. Gave me a letter to give to my doctor as they said they would do any jabs that I needed. Will get them done this week and then I fax it to them to say they are done. Wanted to do it this way so all done when it cane to the AOS! They don't send your medical to the embassy until they have your blood test results which take 4 days so they should have eveything at the same time. Then I had a chest x-ray and then waited again. Then I saw another nurse who went through the questions ie why had I been in hospital etc etc. Then she did some proding and checked my breathing oh and yes checked to make sure I was a girl! Didn't get measured or weighed though. She took my blood pressure and some blood and then all done. Just went to the counter and paid. Got a nice receipt too. Good news they said everything was fine and I would pass!all done in an hour!

Just wanted to make a quick note on my medical - the nurse put the wrong date for one of my vaccinations when she noted it on the form. I noticed it the next day and I emailed them with the copies of the form and the original vaccination record. I received the corrected version back the next day. So, before you leave the clinic I recommend that you check that the information has been noted correctly.

Other than that I had pretty much the same experience as everyone else. Have to have another MMR despite having had 2 already due to only one date being recorded (against 2 separate vaccinations, damn NZ doctor) but my info should be at the embassy by now and I couldn't get an appointment till the week after next so I'll just have to have that info for AOS. I did have my height and weight taken and was given a lecture on eating enough and questions about eating disorders (I don't, I'm just small and have acid reflux). I noticed on their form that they have to check for things like apparent mental stability and if you're lying or not.

Not too bad a day, was in for 3.30 and out by 4.15 - it seems that the later in the day your appointment is the quicker it is :)

I'm taking my 10 year old on May 18th, so I'll let you know then. I know they don't have blood and chest xrays, but I'm sure the review will be helpful :)

Hi all,

Had my medical yesterday, thought i'd share.

My sister lives in Harrow, a 30-minute tube ride from Bond St, so I stayed at hers the night before my 9:50am appointment. My medical was at 4 Bentinck Mansions, and I arrived at 9:40 where the young lady at the window took my passport, photo, vaccination record and questionnaire. Gave me another form to complete & hand back.

I was then sent to the waiting room, where after maybe 15 minutes a young lady named Lucy called my name and gave me a big smile, shook my hand, asked how I was doing & took me off to a room down the hall. She advised that my vaccinations were checked against the American schedule, exlpained that depending on the visa type I only need certain jabs, and that the only thing I needed was a Tetanus booster as I hadn't had one in the last 10 years. She gave me the option of getting it done there for £25 or on the NHS for free - I chose the latter, am in to see my GP next week for the shot.

Back to the waiting room to wait for the Radiographer, and another 10 minutes passed before a jolly chap called my name & took me off to yet another room for the X-ray. Took off my shirt, up against the plate, chin on the rest, arms behind my back with a special x-ray blanket thing to hold behind my back (prevents getting a picture below what they need to see).

Back to the waiting room, and this time I must have been waiting a good 30 minutes - i'd already read my paper, plus a copy of 'ok magazine' and was halfway through a car magazine when my name was called again, this time by a quietly spoken blonde doctor who apologised for the wait and really was very nice. She asked me a few questions regarding answers i'd put on the form (had tonsils removed as a kid, have mild asthma etc) then went for the exam. Weight, height, basic vision test. Asked me to remove my top & sit on the bed where she checked my underarms, took my blood pressure, listened to my chest & back, then asked me to lie down where she poked & prodded my stomach. Then the fun part, she asked my to pull my trousers down and then cough as she felt for anything untoward around my crown jewels. The then asked me if it was ok to see my bits, a quick flash and that was that, got dressed & she took a blood sample & all done, very good, said she was happy & they'd call me if the bloodwork showed anything abnormal.

Went back out to the waiting room, 60 seconds later was called out to reception & paid the £190 and off I went with a copy of the report and my passport/vaccinations back etc. In total I was in there about 90 minutes, so a little longer than I expected but really not too bad at all. Just take something to read in case there is a wait, that's all I would suggest really.

Just gotta get my shot next week & then my results will goto the embassy. Then it's just the interview - whenever that might be!
