I think I saw your fiance earlier today...there was hardly anyone else there!

LOL Probably! He said the doc was South African. His appointment was at 2:30, but I know he got there earlier than that. How funny!

they're giving me the tetanus for free, and a few weeks ago the flu and pneumo, so if it were the case, and it's not, then they should have charged for the others

You'll have 50 fits when you see how they bill you in the US. "charge for proportionate use of lighting and heating in ER waiting room for period of 17 minutes $0.06, one cotton ball $0.02, one vial of saline solution $0.98, one overhead lighting handle sheath $0.21...." lol

Tetanus is something that the NHS funds for you to keep boosted throughout your life. Flu and Swineflu are both current seasonal initiatives, implemented by the NHS directly. These are funded by the NHS because they're deemed 'necessary' according to their qualifying criteria/ driven by an NHS directed initiative. If you were female and aged between 12 and 16, you'd get Gardasil (or not, since the NHS are using the other one, name's failing me) but outside of these ages, you'd have to pay for it. Except it's shortly about to be removed from the required vaccination list, due to the CDC changing it's category status.

I too am someone who is too old to have had MMR but I did have both Rubella and Measles as a kid. Not mumps though. You wouldn't happen to know if I'm therefore exempt from needing to get the MMR done?

I didn't have MMR as a kid, but had the mumps, they still gave me the MMR vaccine. :(

Just had my medical in Bentinck mansion. Woke up at around 5am to fly over from Belfast to Gatwick, got the express to Victoria then underground to oxford circus. Took a leisurely walk to find it, its pretty easy to find with the map and iphone out, was way too early so decided to walk over to US embassy too just to have a look. Anyways, when I arrived the buzzed me in, took my questionnaire, passport, passport photo and vaccination records. No other people were in at the time, nice and happy atmosphere, they seemed to be wrapping up Christmas presents while I waited. Came out and gave me my passport back and asked me to fill in top half of a new questionnaire and sign HIV test form, handed it in and off to the x-ray guy who was also very chatty and nice. Did my Mick Jagger pose while holding the thing behind my back and holding my breath, top back on, back to a new waiting room. Sat there for like 2 mins, in comes the young lady doctor and takes me into the office. Went over my questionnaire with me so I could say no no no no no, signed my photo and some other form. Advised me I would need tetanus booster and MMR, told her I'd get GP to do it. She then asked me to sit on the bed and read the chart with each eye, then the throat (say aaaaaaa) exam and pupil flashy light exam, then blood pressure test and stethoscope action followed by some abdominal checking then pop quick look, male it is. Then she chatted away to me while she found a vein and took the blood, plaster on, good to go. Went out and paid the £190 and the receptionist said the results would be with the embassy shortly and if I had any questions just to give her a call.

My appointment was at 12:50, I went inside at about 12:30 and I was back outside again by 1:20. Receptionists were friendly and told me everything I think I would need to know. The X-Ray guy was chatty and got it done pretty fast. Finally, the doctor was professional and personable. Like most people I'm not a fan of needles, but the Dr just took my mind off it. by asking me questions.

So off I went to walk around London coz my flight didn't leave until 8pm.

Well I almost passed. I have to get a letter from my GP about my previous depression a few years back. SLightly frustrating but I booked an appointment for Friday morning so they should get his letter by Saturday. Once they have that they'll send everything off to the embassy.

I doubt it. But make sure to let them know if you are taking any medication for your cold at the time of the medical-I doubt it would be a problem at all if you are, but it is best just to let them know.

Craigy's (fiance's) Medical Experience, pt 1 (so cute I had to post, made me smile) :luv:

So quick recap how my day went:

So I'm up early 6.30am needed to catch the 7.26am train into Manchester

(1.35hrs travel) check everything I need is safely secured in my very

fashionable man bag, passport, check! medical records, check! credit

cards , check! questionnaire filled in, check! directions, check!

I arrive early for the train, part one complete , i purchase my ticket and

find a suitable seat, 25mins down the line and the train is packed with

early morning professionals I spend the next hour firmly pressed into a

very small corner more designed for a contortionist than someone 6 foot, so

glad I showered unfortunately for me the guy virtually sat on my knee

skipped the shower and instead had helped himself too chain smoking cigs

before entering the train! how considerate, NOT

I hit Manchester Victoria on time grab the Metro to Piccadilly and there

waiting a beautiful Virgin train, space is plentiful, I grab a double seat

and live the Virgin dream all the way to Euston, arrive dead on time

leaving me one hole hour before my medical appointment, so next I plan of

attack take the tube to the nearest station which in my case is Oxford

Circus, few minutes of study i work out i need to go one stop so I purchase

my ticket and at this point I realise there is a second extortion line

apart from the one when you ring the US embassy, £4.00 for 30 seconds

travel of which all was spent being rubbed against by a middle aged women

with less teeth than a new born!

I emerge from the tube feeling slightly violated but happy I've made it

this far in time if not a little early, I join the stream of Oxford street

shoppers no signs of recession as there is barely any pavement unoccupied,

i head off left down the main street map firmly held out in front one so I

can read it two as a battering ram against the crowds, surprisingly the map

is quite accurate and i arrive outside the medical mansion 15mins early, I

prepare my paperwork and head in (after playing with the door for a minute

then realising you have to buzz in lol) Knightsbridge is first door on your

right and there are two reception hatches, a voice beckons me over and to

my surprise its Kim Bauer off 24, obviously its not but there is allot of

similarities!

part two tomorrow, thats when the real fun starts! xxxx

Part Two....

So Kim request the following, Passport, questionnaire, pictures, I hand

them over while keeping complete eye contact (just to clarify my eye's

remained focused) , she politely smiles and instructs me to wait in the

near by waiting room, great ceiling in there plastered in coving very

Edwardian, anyway I wait then Kim is back with another questionnaire which

is the same as the first but formatted differently, quick test see if I

can write me thinks (sneaky) so I apply the same answers and pass it back.

Minutes pass by and another woman calls my name, right game on I think as i

follow her to a small medical room but "computer says no" she is the jab

woman, she has a copy of my jabs and states I'm covered no others required

but I could have MNR for £35.00, i pause with a thoughtful look upon my

face then say "No" she looks disappointed but directs me to another room

for a chest x ray, 2 minutes later task complete I'm back in the waiting

room .

"Mr Craig!" I hear the voice, turn quickly and there is the doctor, shock!

horror! holly molly it's a woman, panic I wasn't expecting that but I follow her into another office.

Few questioned followed, fairly standard, am I mentally disturbed, do I

smoke, no mention of alcohol which saved me lie'ing direct to her face,

hopped on to the weighing scales, I notice a slight frown as she jots the

number down, quick eye test which I just squeezed through and a received a

ticking off for not going the opticians every year and before you know it

my pants are round my ankles then there back up my shirt is off and she's

tapping me on my back, ok mr craig just need some blood and a blood

pressure test and were done, I look at my watch , total time of stay

32mins, blood came out nice and easy one more step and I'm homeward , hummm

stumbling block, my blood pressure is high 154 / 102, I tried to explain

6hrs travel, 4 coffees on the train and a red bull prob wasn't helping the

matter but she wasn't having it, I'm packed back to the waiting room, I

wait awhile Kim calls me back over the hatch then hits me for a quick

£190.00 closely followed by a letter for my Doctor, which states" Mr Craig

blood pressure is high monitor him for two days then fax down a plan of

action " great thank you for nothing, I've now seen my Doctor and I have to

go twice a day for blood pressure tests till Friday, oh happy days!
