London Medical - Knightsbridge Doctors

OK so I had my medical yesterday, Friday 30th Oct @ 12.50pm in Brentwick Street. Day tube travel card costs £6.30. I got off at Bond Street, saw footlocker opposite so I crossed the road and walked up that street. I cam,e to pub called '####### and Pit' continue walking up, there is a road to the left of it that continues. Walk up the road and I think its the first right you take and then its the first door on the right. (Sorry for my confused directions)

Anyway I pressed the pressed the buzzer marked with Knightsbridge Doctors. I told them my name and time of my appointment and they buzzed my right in, its the door on the right once you enter. I was greeted by a Australian accented women, she was friendly. She ask for my Passport, Medical Questionnaire, Passport Size picture and vaccination history (if I had it). I ask her about including the sheet where I have specified taking decongestants, she she just give and doctor will decide, so I happily handed everything over. I then took a seat in the waiting. The décor was quite relaxing, nice seating etc. There was a jug of water and cups. About 2 people in front of me. The was around 12.51pm now, I took at seat and waiting. I joked about the water being free, to ease the mood around me. The Australian women then handed me a more detailed questionnaire to fill out. I was told to only complete the the rectangular boxes top of the page and sign the HIV consent form, so I did. This questionnaire was slightly more detailed, but very easy. It went into detail about Tobacco use.

- Have you ever used tobacco yes/no

- current use yes/no

Any ways I completed an waited to hand back. At 1.01pm I was called by a female, blonde doctor. I sat down she asked me I'd EVER been in hospital, I told her about my back and gave her the papers I had brought. She took a look and handed back. I gave her my proof of having chicken pox, she said no need. I had to sign my passport size pic horizontally across the top and couple of other signatures.

I took my jacket and shoes off, her took a reading of my height & weight. Took my eye test. I have my glasses on and just covered my eyes one by one. Then I went behind a screen, she instructed me to strip down to my boxers and lay on the table. She checked my pulse, my blood pressure, shines a light in both eyes, checked my throat, shoulders, chest, liver and spleen. Then the none so awkward part, she lifted up my boxers and told me to couch twice and she put them back down, literately 2 seconds she'd ran out of equipment to take my blood, so she went and got some; came back and took it. I then escorted me to a friendly male for my x-ray. I took my top off as instructed and within 45 seconds, done.

I then sat in a waiting from with blue chairs and waiting. 3 minutes passed ( I guess he was checking my x-ray) the English receptionist collected me. She said I was up to date with my vaccines and instructed me to pay £190.00. I was like brilliant, but then forgot my PIN. Don't worry I did pay, eventually.

All in all, I was in there for 45minutes. It was a doodle. Don't worry about. I was so paranoid and anxious but it was firmness.

My advice is to have you up-to-date vaccine history with you, and any hospital docs if applicable. Don't worry, relax!!

Now just waiting for interview.

Best of Luck. Best wishes. Thank you.

Yes mate. Book in your medical ASAP. All you need is your case number. Get hold of your vaccination history as well, as this will speed up the examination. If you can't get hold of it don't worry.

You don't actually need the vaccinations to get a K1, but you will need them when you adjust status once in the US and married. The benefit of having a record with you at the medical is that the physician at the medical can transcribe them onto an acceptable document that you can use for the AOS in the states. Not having them transcribed in the UK means you'll have to get a civil surgeon in the US to certify them onto the relevant form, and some people encounter a lot of issues finding a Civil Surgeon who doesn't insist on carrying out another complete medical.

There is a CS in the US that will for a small fee do it all by post but this takes several weeks to organise, thus delaying your ability to apply for AOS.

Your timeline says you've not returned P3 yet, so you don't have an interview date? I would wait until my GP will release my vaccination docs and pick a medical date once you know the vaccs are complete. The medical must now happen at least 1 week before going for the interview, though.

Might be worth calling the knightbridge docs, if no one else can tell you, and ask if your GP can fax through the completed vacc history and have them add it to your paperwork after the medical itself?

Timeline Summary:

K-1/K-2 NOA1 - POE: 9 February - 9 July 2010

Married: 17 July 2010

AOS mailed - Interview : 22 November 2010 - 10 March 2011

ROC mailed - approved: 14 February - 18 June 2013

Citizenship mailed - ceremony: 9 February - 7 June 2017

Part of the medical is where you sit down with the nurse and"talk" about your vacs to determine if you are up to date or not. If you are not then they give you the option of having them there or going back to your own dr for them. Therefore it shouldn't be a problem if Simon hasn't had his next MMR. He can go back to his drs for it and then the dr will need to fax proof of them though to knightsbridge The medicals do get booked up and when I called the next appointment was almost 3 weeks later so maybe go ahead and schedule the medical. But definitely call Knightsbridge, they are very helpful.

My fiance has diabetes and as a result has some cuts and scars and his arms and legs which tend to not heal up. Is this a concern or possibly cause of worry for the medical?

That's pretty much exactly what I have. I asked them whether this was acceptable when I called to make the appointment, and the receptionist said that this was totally fine. She even said it wasn't a problem that the records listed me at being at my old address with my previous doctor (I just moved back in August, and the records were printed out before then).

Thanks for the review, hindocha. That was really informative- and nice that I was forewarned about the medical questionare. I was under the impression that there was just the one online that needed filling out, but now I'll be prepared for the other one, too.

Me and my fiance have just found out our case has been recieved at London so I thought, like you, I would like to book the medical. I really wanted to get it organised in time for when Russ comes over for christmas so I called the other day and couldnt believe how rude they were on the phone.

I was about to book my chosen time and date and they wanted my case number and took it along with my name, date of birth and phone number. Then the receptionist asked me where I got their phone number from and whether I have recieved my packet from the Embassy instructing me to make the appointment when I said 'no not yet', she totally turned on me and said 'why are you bothering calling?' And 'how do I know that I need a medical if I havent been advised to have one yet??!!!' I told her we're fully versed on the visa process and want to be organised as possible as we've just recieved our new case number. She was so sarcastic and said 'well, thats not how the embassy works!' Cheek! So now we're no better off and now I may not get an appointment for when Russ arrives over Christmas. Grrrrrrrr! More delays... Let me know how you get on booking yours yorkshirerose22, but be warned...

RUSSandRACHEL: That's very strange. I've had to speak with them on three seperate occasions, and each time found the receptionist to be perfectly polite and helpful. Could you not just call back in a few days and tell them you have received your packet if they ask? I'm surprised they did ask about those things: no one there has asked me whether I received my packet, or how I got their number when I phoned them.
