London Medical - Knightsbridge Doctors

Got my email from Knightsbridge. It specifically asks for me to bring the embassy letter to confirm my case number and visa category, so it appears just having the case number isn't enough to actually attend the medical itself. I'm not sure if this has always been the case, just something to bear in mind if booking after obtaining your LND number from the NVC but before you get your "packet 3" from London.

Some people never receive packet 3 and have a medical anyway. :)

I booked and attended without my embassy letter last week. They were fine. For my proof of the LND case number I took a screenshot of the CEAC case tracker that clearly shows my case number and that it was 'In Transit' and for confirmation of my visa catagory I took a copy of the DS-160 confirmation page that shows your applying for a category K visa.

Link to the CEAC tracker:

https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx

Link to fill out DS-160 (Give yourself a good hour or more to fill this out and have your passport and previous passports on had for US entry dates):

https://ceac.state.gov/GenNIV/Default.aspx

The day of attending my medical my case status moved to 'Ready' so they still received my case before my medical results.

Hope this helps.

Well, that's what I thought was the case. Why do they say these things and not mean them?!

My CEAC status has been 'ready' since yesterday so that's fine. If some don't get Packet 3 then I guess I may as well start filling out DS160 now!

I filled mine out before receiving packet 3. It did come a few day after the embassy received my case but I've just done all of the steps outline in it already. My case got touched again today so I'm hoping that my interview date has been assigned. I can't wait. Ive been waiting so bloody long. You can conceive a baby and give birth to it in less time than its took so far for me to get my K-1.

Funnily enough, I receives my packet 3 today after just a couple of days which is very speedy indeed!

Just one specific question - any idea if I should count childhood asthma as a 'major illness' for question 2 on the medical questionnaire? Certainly not something that affects me now (and hasn't done for many a year!)

If you claim it, they may quiz you more or want a report from your GP. If you forget to bring it up because it was a long time ago, then it never existed. Not advising, just thinking out loud about what I would do.

It's funny you say that, because I had bad asthma as a kid too, but because it's not affected me for years I had actually completely forgot about it. Do what I did and just say no, nothing became of it, they take your word for it.

Had my medical today (at Bentinck Mansions). I ~hate~ anything relating to doctors/medicals/examinations, so I'd been dreading it since forever. It wasn't bad! (Which from me is a ringing endorsement :P )

I took the train down from Liverpool (Virgin, 2hrs, £80 off-peak return). I found the place all right (knew I was looking for a little plaque on the door in advance), a very rude resident went into the building right in front of me and made a point of slamming the door in my face. Got to the desk, the girl gave me a form to fill in, not dissimilar to the online one but with a bit more detail and checkboxes for a variety of specific illnesses. She took all my info (vaccination record, ID, first checklist, at that point). Despite there being two chairs in front of the desk and it being a two-minute form, they insisted I go to the waiting room to fill it out. Did that and was returned to the waiting room with half a dozen others, only one of whom was called before me.

Sat in the waiting room for about 10-15 minutes before being called for my x-ray. Nice man (I'm terrible with names so no idea who), gave me a front-opening gown and I stripped top & bra behind a curtain, put the gown on, and kept it on and closed during the x-ray. Procedure itself was quick, I had to contort myself a bit strangely (lean forward and flatten chest against x-ray plate while keeping chin on a metal rod in the middle of it, arms stuck out and hands behind back holding onto a pad of something) but it was over in a minute and when he'd scanned it onto the computer he let me look at it and explained what he was looking for (apparently I have pointy lungs and this is A Good Thing, means there's no chest infection). There was a lighter patch towards the bottom centre of my left lung which I thought hadn't come out properly but it was my heart  .

Then I got sent to the ladies' waiting room (still in the gown, carrying my top & bra). Sat there for 10-15 minutes before a nurse got me and took me into another room, said my vaccinations were in order (I took the checklist to my GP two weeks ago and told them to give me everything I hadn't got!), in and out in two minutes flat and returned to the waiting room.

Another 10-15 minutes went by and a nice lady doctor came and got me. Went into the examination room. Got asked about drug use/criminal convictions/alcoholism etc. I'm wholly innocent in that department, so no doubt looked guilty as hell, heh. She took my weight and height (apparently I'm 2cm shorter than I thought I was), tested my eyes, then jeans off and she sat me on the dreaded examination table. There was lots of light-shining into my ears/throat/eyes, took my BP (which I knew in advance was good, so I wasn't worried about that), then I had to take the gown off while she listened to my lungs (back) and heart (front). Then I lay down while she did the lymph nodes in my neck and abdomen, and checked my feet(?). Nothing painful, just a bit of gentle pressing. I've got a mildly overactive thyroid so she checked that as well and didn't feel any problems with it (phew!). Then came the dreaded genital check but it literally was a quick peek -- underwear off, lie down, knees up, done. At the end she drew blood (got it in straight away without hurting -- I've had a ton of tests recently for the thyroid so I'm an old hand at that now, but this was one of the better draws), and said everything seemed normal. I'm assuming if she'd noticed something amiss I'd have been told then rather than waiting to hear later?

They said the results would be with the embassy in four working days, i.e. weekend doesn't count. Reception staff were pleasant, although weren't very urgent about dealing with me when I was at the window. They gave me the DS-3025 without me having to ask, and stressed what it was for and why it was important I didn't lose it. The most arduous part of the day was waiting the 2.5 hours for an off-peak train to get home :content: All in all I was there just under an hour, and half of that was waiting around to be seen by different people.

Just a quick question for those who have had their medical/filled in their medical questionnaire post May 2015. Question 5: 'Have you ever used drugs?' is throwing me a little, because it seems so vague and broad. Are they including the likes of alcohol and tobacco in that spectrum, or am I just making more of a meal of this than I should? Just curious as to what other people have put.

Drugs = illegal drugs. You don't want to answer yes to this if you haven't, do you? ;)

They certainly do ask you about drinking and smoking habits though.

If you have any convictions or recorded medical history of abusing illicit drugs, recreational or otherwise, then you would have to answer "yes". If you stated "no", and then your Police report or medical history shows otherwise, you will cause serious issues and possible denial with your visa application. If you only dabbled a few years back and have no convictions or medical history of drug abuse, then technically you should answer "yes", though that would still likely cause issues/ delays with your application.

Basically, if you are not currently abusing drugs and have no drug related convictions nor medical history of drug abuse, then there is no way for the Embassy to know what you did in your past. It's up to you how you want to approach it, though stating "no" will make the whole visa application much smoother and quicker. Read between the lines!

Alcohol and smoking are dealt with in separate questions and are not related to question 5.
