ABSOLUTELY be respectful. I cannot agree more. However, I have to disagree with the statement that they'll be respectful back, because it's not always true. My experience with the Toronto Pearson secondary officers was completely different. They were downright rude.... not only to myself but to others. It was shameful.

I totally agree. I changed the way I travelled and started flying out of Syracuse mainly because of them.

I was delighted when Halfax Airport was certified as a POE to the US. I made 3 trips through Toronto Pearson and didn't enjoy any of them through Customs there.

Halifax on 2 occasions was very friendly, and they knew how to smile and say "fine" when asked how they were. Not so in Toronto

I know they have a job to do and can't be too sociable but being a bit friedly wouldn't kill em

I have to agree with the Pearson IOs being some of the rudest and unhappiest people I have ever met. Perhaps working there just bite. Or perhaps since Toronto has a huge immigrant population, they just get tired of hearing bull stories all the time. Who knows...

11/14/2008: online case status not updated since filing of AOS in July 2008

01/20/2009: Received another RFE for Affadavit of Support Info

02/02/2009: Responded to RFE with brand new AOS based on 2008 tax return (if that doesn't shut them up, dunno what will)

02/19/2009: EAD card received in mail (no updates on Online Case Status ever made)

02/23/2009: AP received (again, no online updates)

02/26/2009: Received interview appointment letter for 4/6/09

04/06/2009: AOS approved for unconditional GC

04/21/2009: GC received

I've always had great experiences going through YYZ from both Canadian and US CBP. My USC husband was pretty much waved through the Canadian side when he came to visit me too.

2007-06-05: AOS interview letter date

2007-06-13: AOS interview letter received in mail

2007-07-03: EAD card production ordered

2007-07-07: EAD card received! (yay!)

2007-08-23: AOS interview (Documents / Interview review)

2007-08-23: Green card production ordered!!!

2007-08-24: Welcome notice mailed!

2007-08-27: Green card production ordered again... ?

2007-08-28: Welcome notice received!

2007-09-01: Green card received!

Done with USCIS until May 23, 2009!

Oh good. I hope I get that guy this time. :lol: Actually, I'm seriously considering flying out of Buffalo when I return for Thanksgiving. I just have to decide whether the inconvenience of having to wait at the border outweighs the aggravation of verbal abuse from the Toronto guys. :mellow:

U can be disrespectful back, BUT (in my opinion) it;'s not going to work in your favor! Its pretty bad how some people in authoritative position think they have to be jerks!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

LOL! I hope that you get good guys next time. Everyone I've dealt with there have been great. Even the sternest looking officer was still pretty nice to me. Maybe I've just been lucky! :)
