Teaching in Indiana...........

I have a BA hons degree and PGCE from the UK. (plus 5 years Primary School teaching) I've been searching all day for info on how to start the procees of what I need to do to actually teach ( and I'm still confused !!!). I just wondered if anyone has had any experience doing this in Indiana?

OH taught briefly in IN, but that was an age ago. Have you tried contacting the IN DOE? http://www.doe.state.in.us/

There's a link to teacher licensing which will probably get you off to some start.

I did look on there today but got really bogged down with the information and couldn't really find out how many Praxis exams I would have to take, whether I had to be a citizen and whether they accepted Foreign qualifications and if so the number of credits needed.

Call them and explain your situation? The DOE is pretty helpful here, so I imagine they can point you in the right direction there too...considering they will play apart in your future employment. Good luck!

I wouldn't be suprised if one of your first steps is to have your credentials evaluated. I'm not familiar with Indiana requirements, but I doubt many states are willing to try to evaluate transcripts from foreign schools themselves. If Indiana is like Montana's Office of Public Instruction, they put the burden on the applicant. The department there likely has a list of companies they deem credible for the job. Cheryl is a teacher from the Philippines, and her first step prior to applying for a teachers license is having her transcripts evaluated.
