K-1 Visa Entry at Detroit (DTW)

Hi everyone!

I’ll be entering the U.S. next week through Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) on a K-1 visa, and I’d love to hear from others who’ve entered through this POE.

• Will I need to hand over my X-ray CD along with the sealed medical envelope, or should I just carry it with me?

• What was your experience like at Detroit POE as a K-1 visa holder?

• How long did secondary inspection take, if any?

I’ll be traveling alone and want to make sure I’m fully prepared.

My wife came through DTW with a K1 (some time ago), and it was a breeze, no secondary at least for her.  Detroit is not too busy relative to international flights, so expect relatively quick service.

my now-husband came over on his K1 in november 2024 at DTW.

it was very easy, took all of 5 minutes.

no secondary inspection. the only hang up was the officer didn't know exactly what to do and had to get a superior. but that was it.

 

the only thing you give them is the sealed envelope. the x-ray CD is yours to keep, so just keep that with you.

and obviously you show them your passport lol
