Hi there,

I have entered the us on a k1 visa and have just submitted my AOS after getting married.

To sign up to things like venmo it is asking for a government ID from me.

Obviously I do not yet have a green card or any form of id other than my passport and uk driving licence.

How do people get around this? or is there any state issue id you can get whilst being in the process of AOS to show you are in the country legally that you can use for these services?

Thanks

@Morgan Tooke Do you have a Social Security Number or card?

https://www.visajourney.com/guides/social-security-number/

The lesson for all K1-to-AOS is to get a SSN as soon as possible on entry to the US with the I-94. Most everything sprouts from there: driver license/state ID, bank account, utility bills, tax filings, etc.

Please complete your timelines. Did you get SSN yet? Sounds like you have to wait for EAD but not sure where you are in the process

I already have a ssn through working at a summer camp in the states a few years ago but is on an old card. I have put in my AOS that I would like a new ssn card but do you guys think I should apply for a new one now using the i94 or wait.

Once the number is issued it's yours forever. SSA won't issue a card with less than 15 days left on I94. Also appointment is required now to go in person

If you have a SSN already, your number does not change.

You can request a new Social Security Card, just give the SS office your number.

Once you have the card, go get a state ID.

Not every state will give you a state id based ONLY on the social security card. Most of the will want to see EAD,. greencard. At least that was it a couple of years ago

The "downside" of K1 is that you will be in limbo until you get your EAD or Green card.

It is like I can get here faster, but then can't do much beside hanging out with the spouse and making friends, exploring the city.
