Good day, everyone. I have submitted an application for my mother. She is currently unwell, suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes. Recently, she was diagnosed with a small, non-cancerous tumor on her brain, which is not life-threatening. She also experienced knee pain, resulting in a fall that caused her to injure her knee. At present, she is confined to bed, and other family members are assisting her with mobility. There are moments when she appears somewhat confused. I would estimate her overall health at about 70% compromised. I am concerned whether this situation might affect her chances of obtaining an immigrant visa.

I’m sorry that she is unwell, hopefully by the time the visa is processed she’ll be better.  She will have to pass the medical to get an immigrant visa, but with all of that the bigger question for me would be can she afford the healthcare costs in the US?

I do have insurance. What aspects of the medical examination do they evaluate? I believe she will be able to walk again shortly; she just needs to recover her knee. She was walking previously but experienced knee pain, and on Saturday, she injured it further.

Will your insurance cover her too? That would be very unusual, so do double check that as otherwise it’s likely to be incredibly expensive if she doesn’t qualify for Medicaid.

I don’t think anything you’ve mentioned would be an issue for the medical, it’s more communicable diseases etc. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-10-prepare-for-the-interview/medical-examination-faqs.html

Good luck.

At the interview they can request proof of insurance. As they may decided she could be a public charge.

Who would look after her here? Your Insurance covers you.

Well, let’s see how better she gets. She was fine until she hit the knee. She will recover. She is 51. If not, I would take care of her. Thank you very much for your response

Am sorry to hear your story,  my mum had a similar experience, however it was a minor stroke and bleeding in the brain. Thank God we rushed her to the hospital in time and she is now recovering. We are waiting for her interview as well. I wish your mum a speedy recovery 51yr is still young

we all wish you and her well

gonna expand on my comment above

MIL also with disbetes and takes 3 medications / the most important one (insulin pen) is over $600 and needs yearly visit to endocrinologist to write prescription

Along with appointments every 6 weeks to podiatrist to have toenails trimmed so there is no danger of ingrown toenails/ one thing that happened in my family to make cousin loose a leg due to infection

Five major complications of diabetes include cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, nerve damage (neuropathy), eye damage (retinopathy), and foot problems. These complications can significantly impact overall health and well-being.

We also had checked cost of health care insurance from Affordable Insurance Plans and they can offer low premium BIG BUT is the yearly deductibles range from $3000  to $5000 / so, check if she can be added to your work plan Or the cost in your area for Marketplace Insurance.  Adil was able to add his mom to work place health care and we picked up a supplemental plan to fully cover her / at a cost of just under $1000 monthly.  We also fly yearly to Moroc to get the expensive pen as its $40 a month there and over $600 here so think in that direction (as we had no issues bringing in insulin pen for 12 months with CBP)

Wishing u the best
