Hi all

I've been working in the US on F-1 OPT visa after entering the US in 2022. I'm getting married to my fiancee who is a US citizen later this year and my parents are hoping to visit. My question was around how my dad should answer the question regarding the purpose of his visit to the US. I was concerned if him saying he's coming to attend my wedding would lead them to be suspicious if he would overstay his visa (although he absolutely has no plan to stay beyond the time of my wedding).

He would of course not lie if asked if he's attending any special event, but is it better to just state the purpose is to visit me and spend time with me instead of giving too much details unless further probed? or is it better to be upfront and state that he wants the visa to attend my wedding. I'm a bit torn since I want to do the right thing but just wanted to know if there was a low-risk answer that is not a lie that would be a better options? Thanks in advance!

He must be 100% honest but saying he’s coming to visit you is truthful. If asked to elaborate, he can.

As he would have no route to adjusting status through you for a long time anyway, that will help too.

even if you were a permanent resident , you can not adjust for them to stay

so, just say going the wedding

before planning the wedding , check following site for wait times for the country as it could be a long wait

Truthfully

When is your wedding and in which country / city would your parents interview? Unless they already applied it may be too late already given that many countries have interview wait times in excess of 200 days.

EDIT: Never mind, just saw @JeanneAdil already pointed out the same thing...
