After successfully receiving a K1 via Poland in August, getting married in October, submitting our AOS in December '24, and a RFE in February (most likely due to the I-864 being filled out incorrectly), we finally received a notice that our interview was scheduled to take place in May! This is exciting news that the process is moving forward but I can't help but feel a bit nervous. I'd heard from a lawyer last year that interviews are rare for K1, especially so quickly, so does this mean that something could be wrong or is it a change in procedure due to the new administration? For those who've gone through the interview process following a K1, what are some things to look out for and items to double check? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks!

Looking at the statistic trends, it appears that interviews for all Adjustment of Status applicants are on a sharp increase since the new administration took over. The last time Trump was the president, there were very few interview waivers for green card applications and it appears that they are going back to that policy.

Yes! I was AOS from K1 during Trumps 1st admin. He made all K1s interview AOS mandatory, then course covid happened and that’s when they started “waiving” interviews due to social distancing etc etc.

I’m a citizen now (thankfully) but I remember preparing so much and getting asked so little during my AOS interview . I’d suspect all interviews will become mandatory with higher scrutiny regardless of K1/Esta/B2 etc. This administration ain’t messing!

Bottom line: don't be nervous.  Just organize your documentation and trust that you are here legitimately.  You got married and are living your best life! Stay humble, appreciative, and honest in the interview.  So happy for you, it's incredibly good luck that you got the interview so fast!  Please come back and share how it went to the rest of us still waiting <3

AoS interview isn’t too bad, generally. Just be prepared for quick fire questions or questions that seem designed to ruffle your feathers. Our IO asked our anniversary like four or five times, sometimes immediately after a completely unrelated question.

I was approved immediately after, but I do remember it being a bit unnerving at the time.

Good luck!
