I hate to give the shortest reply here but I need to say it:

You only live once.

Do what it is you want to do with the time you have and don't worry about the rest. It will all fall in line.

Amen!!!

I'm in the same boat. I loved my former career (museums/heritage preservation), but not having any luck finding anything here in that field. Currently working in a cross-stitch and knitting specialty store, which are two of my favourite things to do, but working retail is...well...working retail. ;) Being surrounded by creative things all day is inspiring me, I must say, and I am seriously toying with the idea of designing my own patterns and stuff -- maybe with historically-based themes?? Mixing two passions into one maybe.....or taking watercolour classes....or photography.....we'll see! :)

Well I'll add my encouragement here too :) My husband is currently going to school and he's 36. Right now he can only take night classes because he has to work full time during the day. Once I get over there we're hoping that we can send him to school full time to finish. I would probably take 3 semesters and he'd have his degree as I will keep my job here in Canada since I can't complain about the pay. My hope is once he has his degree he'll get a way better paying job and move me to a state where it doesn't snow (crossing fingers for california or arizona) and when that happens I'm hoping to go back to school and get a degree in something completely different LOL I'll probably be early to mid 30's when that happens but that's fine with me :) I fluffed off in university and went to college instead. Got a diploma in computers and have never ever used it. I've always wanted to go to law school so that's a possibility though if my husband decides to open his own business I'll get a business degree. So who knows. The sky is the limit :)

And even though some of the people in your classes may be younger than you, you will always be kewl cause you can do hair! I'm envious cause I can barely make my own hair look 'ok' on any given day :)

However...I'm 44. And yeah, I know that's not old...BUT...it does make me wonder if I'm a bit old to really start over in a new direction. Two areas interest me...CAD drafting (which I used to do hand drafting many years ago before CAD came out) and maybe, just maybe nursing. There are lots of colleges and two year colleges that I can choose from that are relatively close...even with online classes. But starting over...GAH! I don't wanna be 90 years old and getting my degree. :)

Karen,

I had a woman in one of my Women's Studies courses couple years back - she was 63 and beggining her bachelor's degree - she was by far the most interesting student I have ever came across. Her life experiences enriched my class like not even my lectures (which are, of course, effing brilliant  ) and circus did. So don't cut yourself short. Prof's appreciate mature students more than you think.

Like I told Stacey.... GRAB LIFE BY THE B@@@LLS  . Ok I didn't say that to Stacey, but it's one of my class openings (serious).

Peace, L.

I wish I had more of a background than TV production with a music minor. D'oh! I've been at my job ten years and have no idea what I'd want to go into. I like what I do for the most part. It's hard when you have to work holidays and you're doing nothing important. Like, if I were helping people on Christmas(doctor, pilot, etc) instead of working for a sports station. We don't do much during the day which wold ordinarily be a good thing but the down time gets old and only leads for more opportunity to complain. Then, when it finally gets busy, everyon complains because there's too much to do.
