Hi everyone,

My fiancé and I are putting are package together to file for a K1 visa. But I have a few questions about a few things, maybe you can help 😊

First of all, the letter of intent to marry, do we both have to write our own letter or can we write one together and both sigh that one?

As for evidence of getting married, other than us having our rings and me having my dress, there aren't concrete plans since we don't know when it will be approved. Our plans are to get married as quickly as possible once I arrive by going to a courthouse, and a little bit later we are planning on doing a ceremony and party for our friends and family, but we don't know when that will be yet, so how can I show our intent to marry the best?

Also, do we need to show our stamps in our passports? I have my I-94 form and we've added copies of all our tickets when we've visited each other.

I'm sorry for all the questions. I'm so worried I might be overlooking a little thing that could potentially delay or mess up the process, so I wanna make sure we do everything the right way 😊

Thanks!!

you each should have your own letter of intent

the signature doesnt have to be wet, so if the foreign fiance wants to sign it and then scan and email it to you, they can.

you really only need to include the letter of intent as your proof that you'll get married. you can include how you intend to do that (i.e. big ceremony, court house ceremony, etc). you don't wanna show too much "wedding stuff" and confuse whoever goes over your petition into thinking that you're already married, ya know?

stamps are best if you can, i know some airports just don't do them anymore

Yes, you definitely need one from each of you.  The one and only RFE my now wife and I received was for a missing intent to marry letter from her.  She sent me a scanned copy so I could respond to the RFE, and we were all good.

I agree with @MalloryCat, no need for detailed plans of the future wedding, just the desire of each of you to marry.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much, that's very helpful! I'm gonna work on the letter right now 😊

Unlike others commenting, we did a joint letter of intent to marry.  No RFEs, no problems.  We provided no concrete wedding plans in our petition, aside from the obvious plan to marry within the 90 days.

The purpose of passport stamps is to provide primary evidence of the required one meeting in the two years prior.  Don't overthink things.

Thank you so much, I was wondering if a combined one would be good too, so that's good to know.

Are stamps still needed with a I-94 form and boarding passes on the trip pages we made, you think? It seems unnecessary to include them if we already show other proof but I wasn't sure.

Probably not, since many countries don't even routinely stamp passports any longer.  Boarding passes are great, as is the I-94.  Sometimes people try to use printed trip itineraries though, which is not great evidence of actual travel, but just a booking.

So far what we've done is put our boarding passes, our Airbnb bookings and some pictures of us together on a page per trip 😊

That sounds like great evidence.  Good luck!
