Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening Everyone

My fiancé petition was approved last month (No RFE). I got a help from one immigration attorney who charged me $2500. Today I called the office to know how they can help me with the next steps of the process. I was told to pay $1500; so they can help me with everything with NVC and Embassy stages. After this stage (NVC and Embassy), they will charge me $3800 for AOS when my fiancé gets here in USA if she gets the VISA. I was told that filling DS160 to schedule interview is really sensitive and needs to be done with precautions. My question is that: Do I really need help from immigration's attorney for the next step? This is a lot of money without the govt fees. Any advise is welcomed. Thank you.

Most people here DIY, not going to say anything about what you can do because I have no idea about you and your case.

Daang, I should start filling out forms for people for $$$$. Did not know it was this expensive.

If you and fiancé have like 0 issues like former drug abuse, run-ins with the law etc it shouldn't be complicated.  Do they provide anything else beside filling out forms for you? I don't think you can take a lawyer for an embassy interview....

If you can read and follow directions and have a bit of attention to detail it is not that hard. Sure it needs some research but this forum basically has it all and you can ask questions. Most of us here did it on our own and we were fine.

"I was told that filling DS160 to schedule interview is really sensitive and needs to be done with precautions." What does this even mean?

What I would do is spend like 3 hours on this forum and in the Guides section some of it might be outdated but in general it gives u an idea of the steps you need to do, then see how you feel about the process, also u can google ds160 form examples (it is an online form so probably harder to practice than just on a simple pdf) then decide if you feel up to it or $1500 worth that you don't have to learn/do it yourself.

attorney wants to charge you $1500 for NVC on K1?  there is nothing to be done at NVC for K1

NVC will assign a embassy # and forward case to embassy where you will provide needed documents

Maybe they help with the stuff needed for the interview? E.g ds160, the financial affidavit and accompany documents, etc ?

I do not have any special circumstances. I am just scared about new immigration policies that White House administration signs everyday.

Thank you for your advise.

If that is the case, having a lawyer won't help.

There is nothing particular about my case. Like I said; We (Fiancé and I) do not have any special circumstances. I am just worried about these new immigration policies.

That is what I will do. Will spend this weekend to learn about the next process. Will come back here when I have more questions. Thank you.

Benin is on Trump's probationary list meaning the country is suppose to address concerns regarding security and vetting process

news media in that country should be closely following what the Benin government is doing to comply so the bene in this case should know more than any USC here

right now the ban is only proposed but any country on either of the 3 lists is aware and able to start working towards the best outcome for their citizens

there will be a full list provided by the embassy and can be seen here under guides or at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html

the lawyer will not know what questions the CO is going to ask or how much the bene knows about the USC

$1500 is a lot to pay when the list is free from the above immigration site

Just follow the requirements, do your research, ask here in Visa journey and no need for spending a lot for lawyers. I regret why my husband hired lawyer when I first came to US. The lawyer only provided the forms, told us the necessary documents and after we filled up the forms he submitted the packet through Fed ex. That's all. That's why when I filed for petitioning my sons, removing my ROC and Naturalization I DIY through the help of nice people here at Visa journey.

To add to this, even with a lawyer or visa service, the petitioner and beneficiary still need to do all the legwork, and check all the forms.

To the OP, if there is no criminal history, or immigration related issues, a lawyer is most likely not needed.  When I started the journey with my now wife, I had a consult with a lawyer (friend of a family member) regarding my I129F, and was prepared to go that route, but he reviewed the case and suggested I handle it.  This was the best advice I ever received from a lawyer.
