We considered both routes, but to us, 3 year was fine. He came on a spouse visa/green card, we applied under the same theory. We realize the 5 year has technically less documentation, but since we already have all of the documents together anyway, why wait?

Oh I see, not having to wait makes sense.

With 3 year rule, both spouses are advised to go to the interview VS under 5 only the applicant.

Plus now he has to remember nitty grittys of how relationship developed over 17 years.

But it's totally doable.

Best of luck!

Hello,

It seems my wife got her appointment quite quickly for the Milwaukee WI office.

Filed: 4/1/2025 online

NOA: 4/3/2025

Biometrics: re-used

Interview: 5/12/2025

I'm a bit nervous, because I won't be able to attend with her.  We have a 4 year old and a 4 month old and my understanding is that we cannot take them to the appointment, so she will have to go without me.  We where not expecting an interview so quickly, and she hasn't started studying for the citizenship test yet.

Is she applying under 3 year rule (marriage to US citizen) or 5 year rule (general provision)?

If under 3 year rule you really should go with her. She can have a very bad experience if US citizen isn't present.

Can somebody (family, babysitter) watch the kids?

So, unfortunately we had to do the 3 year rule; we where going to wait for 5 years, but applied early due the current climate.  I was expecting a long wait, so getting the interview letter today was surprising.

The green card interview was very easy, since we already had one child together.  However, I was able to attend that one.

I will see about babysitting;  We have no family in the area unfortunately;  I'll also check with my Mom if she can help us out, but she lives about 1,500 miles away and its not easy for her to visit us.

-thanks,

I applied last night, status = "case was received and a receipt was sent".

My wife applied a little while ago, status = "case is being actively reviewed by USCIS".

Her status is one step ahead of mine. Is this usual?

Wow, that was quick! Huge congrats to you all! Good luck with the next steps. Out of curiosity, did you guys wait the full 3 years or apply after 2 years and 9 months? I'm wondering because I applied right after 2 years and 9 months 🙂

Even if only N-400 mentioned in letter, you may experience combo on the day.

So it’s not guaranteed?? They can say on the day of interview you are not eligible ?? first they have to wait for ROC interview … just to have the info when my letter comes what I should do

Yes, you can show up and then can do only N-400 and have you wait for I-751 to be decided on different day.
