Hi everyone! I hope this is under the correct category…

my interview is coming up and I would totally do it on the spot… I feel very prepared and love my husband so much that I don’t have any worries (and vice versa lol) but I have one point that I don’t know how to think about. I read that lots of people got asked who proposed and how the proposal happened. Our situation was that we just decided that we wanted to move on and be able to live together so we decided to get married (K1). I’m sure we’re not the only ones with no „real“ proposal but I worry that they might think that we just did it for other reasons besides wanting to live our life together… I hope this makes sense. Would you mind sharing your experience or whatever so I can start relaxing about this possible question? 😅 thanks a lot in advance! We will totally answer all questions truly but I just worry that they might think bad of this

Answer just as you have told us. “ We decided we wanted to be together for life  so we made the decision together to get married. “

Long gone are the days of a standard “surprise, one sided, on  bended knee” proposal. Life happens in all different ways !!

Don't fabricate a reason because you "worry that they might think that we just did it for other reasons besides wanting to live our life together".

If that is your bona fide relationship reason, then answer genuinely and truthfully.

In our case, the interview was waived.

But we were in a relationship for over 5 years before deciding to get married.

And we were worried that the consulate or USCIS would question us why we waited so long?

Our answer would have been that we were finally ready to marry.

Every couple has their reasons. The worst reason is a fabricated one.

Thank you! Yes that is right! I wouldn’t have made up a reason I was just worried that they wouldn’t like the truth haha but thanks!
That is amazing that yours was waived! We we’re together for 6.5h years when we got married last year but it’s only 2 more weeks to the interview so I doubt that we’ll get it waived!
