So This upcoming Sunday, my wife and I depart for British Columbia. Fly into Van, but right off the bat driving to Victoria (USAA has great rental rates with Budget) So first 3 nights in Victoria. have a hotel booked for Wed night in Van, but if its stinky because of the garbage strike, i think we will just go somewhere else. maybe Naniamo or somewhere closer to our final destination---kamloops for sisters wedding on Aug 25. So if anyone has been downtown Vancouver in the toursitry areas (Stanley park, gastown etc etc) did it smell?? Best to go somewhere else?? Were staying at the Hilton which I think is on Robson, think thats close to the gastown area????? Been a few yrs since i was in Vancouver.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I work downtown, and I'll be honest - it's starting to reek. -_-

Around English Bay seems to be pretty decent though, I think because the ocean gives off a bit of ventilation, so Stanley Park and the surrounding area should be good. Robson was also pretty decent, if you can avoid the overflowing garbage bins - and you'll be somewhat near Yaletown, so go to the Yaletown Brewing Company and have a pint or two with a pizza. :D

On a wed night would there be any good bars for dancing? top 40 music, salsa, or the 80's!! Something that is sort of happening! I'm not a good dancer, so don't want to be on the floor without others around, lol

not exactly sure on what we want to see in Van. lets just say we are splurging on a hotel there to enjoy it,lol Wife has been away on work for 4 months, lol She gets back this Friday, and we depart 0600 Sunday!! Will do a lot of touristy things in Victoria (I resided there for nearly 10 yrs) so Van is more of a chill day, but still want to get out and see a few things before we hit the jacuzzi, lol But if the city smells, thats no fun!!
